Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Hey everyone, I'll be in Atlanta Georgia tomorrow, and would like to know if any one in/around the area would have any bantam Ameraucanas they wanted to sell? That would sure be great, so if you have any, please pm me. thanks

OK, they're eight weeks old. I hope you can tell a little better what gender they are.

They got to free range outside of the playpen for the first time last week. They're getting so big!

I feel like it should be pretty obvious by now, but I've never hatched a pullet. This is what I suspect, though...

#1 is looking pretty cockerelish to me. He's starting to get shiny sickle feathers and his comb is reddest. I don't know if it means the others are pullets or he's just more advanced. My guess is blue wheaten cockerel.

#2 and #4 are very similarly colored and I'm HOPING that they are blue wheaten pullets...

This one has me really concerned. It's lighter than the rest and is really sweet. I'm hoping this one is a splash pullet but the comb is making me think cockerel.

I would really appreciate some input from the experts.

Hey everybody,

this is Scarlett, my lavender Ameraucana. I am so excited to finally have both a lavender chicken and an Ameraucana! She is between 2 and 3 weeks I believe. I got her from a breeder (Trish44) down the way from me and I am not sure what her official hatch day is.

Sorry, that is not a lavender. I don't see beard and muffs and it just does not look like an AM to me, but I only have black ams and lavender/splits. If it is a ameraucana it would be a blue, the eye liner is the main thing that is trowing me. Maybe someone with more experience will chime in.

at that age the beard and muff's kinda disappear as the other feathers come in but the beard and muff are still chick down they grow in about the same time as the top of the head about the last thing to feather in lol...

but i agree its definitely not Lav it might be a really dark blue or a black that is split with Lav or just plain black...

Yeah, I was kinda thinking she was going to turn out to be darker than anticipated, but I love her just the same, I hopes maybe she will just be really dark but not black, she has a couple of solid white feathers on each wing. I am really new to the chicken thing, I got my first lot at a feed store, one of them turned out to be a roo, so I decided I really wanted colorful layers too. I know own Scarlett and an EE, midge!

Tenneseeckn, Numbers 2, 3, & 4 are definitely pullets. Number 1 I'm not sure about. It's been so long since I had a SW Cockerel that I can't remember what they look like but I'm thinking that may be it. Otherwise, you may have something like one bird I've got. It has plumage that for the most part looks like a BW pullet but it also has some other funky plumage that is sort of like the red edging you see on yours.

I've had this bird for almost two years now. It doesn't act like a male at all but I can still only fit one finger between it's pelvic bones. And it's never gotten to full size either. I'm wondering if it may not be a hermaphrodite or something. Strange for sure. Let us know how that bird looks in a few months. I'd be interested to know.

God Bless,

I've jumped on the lavender band-wagon!! 23 lavender Ameraucana eggs into the incubator earlier today. (Parents were originally purchased as chicks from John Blehm.)

So, this is my first posting on this forum. I purchased a dozen Wheaten Ameraucana's yesterday and am wondering what to expect from the breed. My main purpose is for egg production, but if tempted I may well breed from them too and show.....

Any advice please?

Are there any hatcheries (or anywhere else online) where I can get some real ameraucana bantams? I had actually found a place once, but now can't find it anywhere. thanks
