Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

That reminded me.... SPLASH.... I don't get those at my place.... BUT Amy, could the one little Wheaten Pullet I hatched from your eggs be splash? I don't see anything but white and cream...... That would help tons on getting some blues

I am waiting for a reply.....

well now I guess it could be a roo..... I have to look... either way.....

I have NOT had my best hatch.

23 lavender Ameraucana eggs set. 16 made it to lock down. 5 out successfully. 2 badly shrink wrapped that I helped this morning. (I am NOT a fan of helping but they do seem to be thriving at this point after 2 baths .... grrrrr. Poor little guffers.) Another one pipped but died immediately after pip. I think it may have hit a vein. Slid right out of the shell when I did the egg-topsy - unlike my 2 sticky chicks.

Is there something tricky about hatching lavenders or did I just get unlucky? These Ameraucanas are trickier to hatch than my Marans!!!

And I thought they were bad ....

Edited to add ... I cracked open 6 of the unhatched/unpipped eggs - 3 were actually clear, 2 very early death, 1 appeared to be fully formed by NO yoke absorbed. So I'm assuming, not an incubation issue?

Quote: The first picture had black, the second had light blue. If it were a splash you would see white there.
Well I am not positive, but my little wheaten chick is mostly white... I saw one little odd dark feather and some cream color.

If anyone has a picture of a splash wheaten chick I would love to see it.

When I left the farm I had 4 little wheatens from my own flock that had hatched.... 1 more had pipped and 3 more still in there.... having a better hatch with wheatens than I do lavs I had one from my split out when I left and there were 4-5 eggs in that basket.... I couldn't see the other basket. Update tomorrow..... it is actual hatch day

These wheatens will tell me if I have a blue roo are black.... I can't tell... he is kinda gray but very dark no lacing.

I got some ameraucanas from an breeder online. They were a mix of blue and black chick's. One is the really nice blue 2 are all little darker. The rest are black. I am new to this but it looks to me like 2 of them have a single comb not a pea combs. They are around 5 weeks old many a week older. I was hoping to keep 1 roo and whatever girls I get. Is it possible to get a single comb out of a batch of chick's and it's just not show quality or does it mean the lines are not good and the should not be bred or sold as true ameraucanas.

I would not breed them if they straight combs, except as EE. I would also be leery of the others, they may carry it. I had one that was throwing straight combs so she is now and Olive eggs... may not work there either if she is dominate for the pea comb.
