Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

So here is my question about chicken breeds in general and ameraucana specifically. Parentage doesn't matter as long as the result meets sop right ? I ask because I was reading about a lacing project and there was talk of bringing. In a different breed to bring in the lace gene. But as long as the resulting babies eet maeraucana standards the it is an amerauacana and can be labelled as uscb? Assuming of course that the coloring a d breed qualities stay consistent with breeding of those chickens specifically.

Let's say I breed 2 Easter egger together and get a breed standard ameraucana. Is this chicken now for all intents and pirposes an ameraucana?

With dogs of course there are pedigrees. I ask because I don't want to look stupid when trying to decipher an ee vs an am.

The dark "barring" in the hackles. Thin lines of darker gray.

Fretting is not the dark barring in the hackles. I don't know who started using it as such, but fretting would be associated with lavenders birds as it would describe the poor feather quality.

; also: fray b: rub, chafe

intransitive verb
1
a: to eat into something
b: to affect something as if by gnawing or biting : grate
2
a: wear, corrode b: chafe c: fray 1

Quote: Just trying to learn.... is they darker gray not the poor feather quality? is it something else? Would the inconsistent color not reflect the fact that there is an issue with feathering in the Lavenders? (I have never heard the term till I got Lavender Ams.) I know we use blacks to try to limit the issues in the feathers in Lavs. I just want to know what I am looking for to breed better.

I am pretty sure that darker color is not a good quality. What else indicates fretting? I am visual so if someone has pictures I need them.

Is there a breeding line that tends toward more full-bodied birds? I love my Ameraucanas but they are not great quality so I am looking to improve. The ones I see local are built like leghorns. SOME of the breeder ads show a larger bird, with an Orpington shape, which is likely also incorrect, but I like the look. I'm starting to add a few blues, keeping the ones with some edging, but they are also thinner than I'd like.

I don't show, just raise enough to replace my layers, and send the roos to freezer camp. I need a larger bird for the freezer camp plan to be efficient.

Please tell me what direction to look for a larger Ameraucana.

Will be driving from Houston, Texas to Summersville Missouri very soon. WOULD love to bring a few purebred Ameraucana chicks home with me. (and a few olive eggers if possible) If anyone out there has chicks that I could pick up on the way home (Missouri, Arkansas, Texas) without getting too far off route, PLEASE contact me immediately!

We have been spoiled to Jean Ribbeck's bloodline in the past, so I'm looking for the really BLUE tinted ones. No easter eggers please.
