That is the standard for shape. The legs should be slate to black. It is kind of a dark blueish gray. If the chick's toes are white that is ok...you just don't want them to be yellow.

Yeah, the toes sometimes start off white at the ends....

It's kind of cute =) So it will likely turn to black?

Leakage is when a black,blue or lavender rooster has silver or red in the hackle [neck] area.Sometimes in the saddle in severe cases.It is best to stay in the same color families unless you have a project planned to improve something.Wheaten,Blue wheaten,splash wheaten are a family.Blue ,black,and splash as a family line.With lavender black is the best to use for improvement.Anything else is best left to more experienced breeders as it can be a mess to sort out.

I have the American Standard of Perfection book that lists the standards for all colors. It is 75.00 but well worth it. It is a very nice publication.

but oddly the second batch has more pullets

Hello all

Just seeing some thoughts on whether or not you expert Ameraucana owners think this is actually and Ameraucana or if it's really an EE. I have an EE myself (came from farm store hatching stock), but I bought this recent one from a lady so I suppose it IS possible she really breeds them. Not too sure though, hence why I have come to you lovely people for assistance!

She (which is still up for determination btw) is about 2 months old give or take ... any guess on gender would be helpful too. Her legs are a light blue (that called slate?) in the proper light and she was pretty dirty when I got her so she's all white ... just dirty.

That happens to me alot! I have said it before, too. I hatch weekly, and I often get ~ 90% one sex one week and the opposite sex the next week. I don't know why - but it does happen here!
