That threw me too. The splash has more color in his hackles so that was really throwing me off. I know that pullets are preferred without black in the hackles. I need to go read.......

Any info you uncover would be great! My pullets have no black but my cockerel may have some black or very dark grey in his hackles.

Got me some of these birds and absolutely love them, they seem to docile with my other birds. Will they come out of being bullied though?? Or should I separate them?? They could be EE's though, after reading these threads and studying a bit

There are older books you can down load. The Marans will not be in a published bood for 9 more years..... it is not that expensive $59 with shipping so I just took the plunge. I have been using the older book from online.... I am a BOOK person. Just not the same looking on line.

I just could not justify the price, but they are finally paying for themselves and a few extras. May do a mass sell of hens pretty soon, just so I have enough money to make it through the winter with feed.

Great idea....I should do that. Clear the books and start from 0. There is no way I can recover the money from coops...and all those shipped eggs, and treats....etc. Well but the fresh eggs and the fun are worth it.
