Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Hi everyone,

I am looking for a small order of hatching eggs. I prefer wheaten/blue wheaten. I have a handsome rooster and no ladies to match. I probably be looking to have the eggs after August 11th. If any of you have anything available, please feel free to pm me. I have a slight preference for show stock as my boy is SQ. Don't forget to include prices + shipping in your response! Thank you!

I think there is some on the for sale thread.

I'm lost.. Unless you're saying that the hens green egg laying gene would be dominant in a cross? She was hatched from parents that both came from blue eggs and she came from a blue egg..
Where and how did she get the green egg gene at?
It isn't a green egg gene. It is a brown egg gene combined with the blue. It is a sneaky, complicated brown egg gene.
Oh. I didn't know that! Thank you!

Well, ya learn something new every day! LOL

But I think the point to be made for the person that originally asked the question is that you still have to work with what you have available to you. That's a really nice black hen, and if she has Lavs that came from blue eggs, and there aren't other options, I would use that black hen, knowing that egg color is something to be watching for. I also would not use any males that came directly from her for future breedings. Keep pullets only, and then only breed from the ones that lay blue eggs.

It can get messy, but it can also be done. That's how all the lavender breeders have been breeding green eggs out of the lavs. :) You just gotta know what to cull for.

I was wondering what everyone thought of his comb and the brown flecks (just a few) that are mixed in his feathers. Would he be DQ'd for either of those? Thanks :)

Well that's interesting!!! (above post) I had some millie fleur cochins that accidently bred with some black cochins and I got something similar. I sold all the chicks as pets. just saying....I am by no means an eggspert.
