Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

looks like a cockerel from the back, but I bet he is mixed with orpington

he has too much fluff and the tail and body look very similar to my ameraucana/orpington crosses

I have 2 W/BW chicks aproximately 4 weeks? They are starting to get their feathers in on the back of their neck. Both have orangeish feathers there. Does this mean they are cockerels? The heads are still baby fuz. I wish I could post a picture but since BYC changed the format a couple weeks ago I cannot post pictures. Thank You in advance

eta I know when they get older and turn into eagles for sure their boys, but for now???

he also has quite a bit of white in the neck. his sister looks pure . blue variety. The person I got here from only had the black and lavender's though. only other chicken she has was a blue laced red wynadotte and they where in seperate pens.
You are much more of a expert than I though. I will try and get better pic's and pics of his sister

What do you think?

halo what do you think these are babies of babies I got from eggs I got from you?

I think they are both pullets.......it's hard to tell without closeups (I tried to crop them but they got blurry fast)...but I'd guess blue since there doesn't seem to be any black from what I can see!

It seems like a lot of the babies have turned out blue wheaton which seems funny because I thought I had wheaton hens but maybe not. I am pretty new to this. These are the only 2 I am keeping though, I gave away all of the others in the spring. so wasnt able to watch them grow up The person who has the others said they all turned out blue wheaton.

Here is a picture of a W Am cockerel that is 4 weeks old from a hatch of mine in '11 for you to compare to yours......

Thats intereting. Did the red feathers stay on his head then? If I remember mine got white heads and then turned when they were about 4 months old. Wow you can really see the comb developement there .
