Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I don't know what that would make. Try going to the kip calculator to see what you get.

My blues would not be able to be bred with blacks if I manage to get them finished.

NO.... they could never meet... that would mess the whole thing up! That may be how it got lost in the first place... BBS thing.

I am not very good with that thing... now my head hurts.. MAN the combos from the roo and hen I selected, I didn't even find the END of the results

I am totally excited about the blue laced ameraucana project. My excellent blue andalusians are growing nicely. I think I need to take pics so we can see what young birds look like that will have the proper lacing we want. My black ameraucanas from John Blehm are growing too. They are super cute. I am excited to get started with my F1 generation. And by excited I mean....spring 2013...lol Seems so far off but I am sure will be here before I know it. I will try to get some pics of my andalusian chicks tomorrow. Just for our reference.

What is the most sought out color?

I'm looking into becoming a breeder and will be buying show quality stock(hopefully). I'm looking right now to buy from the Ameraucana breeders club and hopefully becoming a member myself in the next year or so. I'm going to do my research first before I go ahead sell. I do have 12 eggs I got here locally from Paul Smith's(in Texas) stock in my incubator. I'm not sure how many will hatch though. I bought another 6 off of eBay, 5 are looking really good in development. Both sets of eggs are a nice blue. I won't be breeding any of these unless the hens I keep are show quality. I'm praying I can successfully hatch these eggs.

When I start selling, I will have all my stock NPIP tested. There's a place not too far from where I live that does the testing.
You are doing just fine. Asking questions is the way to start. Lots and lots of question.

Soo I got some pictures of my little group of Ameraucana bantams. Let me know what you guys think :) Camera is just my cell phone unfortunately. Didn't get the Canon Rebel out this morning. Ah well. The lighting is bad anyway.

They are around 5 months old now. Girls are not laying. Hope it's soon-ish?

This is the cockerel. It's really blurry, but I think it shows his general figure. He's very good to the hens. Doesn't over-breed them at all (yet). Hope he continues to be gentle. My bantams are usually better than the standard boys.

Those are ADORABLE :)

awww so sweet. My LF rooster is a sweet boy my hen....not so much, when I give treats she hangs back from the crowd and steals from others.....silly chicken....
...
I would love some bantams, but only have the facilities for the ones I have. Allthough a full scale multi breed coop is in the planning stages YAY! I am having a hard time keeping my breeders seperated right now :( but it will come in time :)

You're not alone. I am also in the process of getting ready for next years breeding season, and all of my breeds (standard) are mixed together. I keep my Ameraucana bantams and my silkies in two separate locations, and my standards free range.
