Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I see it now. Upon first reading the post, in fact, the first several times I read it, I read "the ones from Paul Smith are NOT pure Ameraucana"...I suppose others could make the same mistake, in fact, I see that others have, based on the original responses...

not to argue but I understood her correctly the first time I readed it and my native language is not english.

Christie, you'd better get used to it. The more you hatch, the more you'll cull.

(It's worse culling the old-timers that have served you well even if it's time.

"The ones not from Paul Smith are NOT pure Ameracuana's!!!"

Cloverleaf even reproduced it without that first not!!!

I questioned - typo or did she mean to put that first "not" there .... ????

Why even mention his name?
Because she has eggs in her incubator from someone who has PS birds that she also got eggs from. The way she worded it may have not been super but i can see why she mentioned PS. What's the big whoopie that fact is she never said that PS sent her the other eggs so no harm no foul.

I have birds from Jean Ribbeck but once I make decisions on who to cross with whom, Jean has NOTHING to do with it. I could cross one of hers with a Marans and she would have no control. It would be absurd for me to then blame her for what popped out of those eggs. Especially if it all went wrong. Gracious to acknowledge her lines if I manage to hatch stuff she would be proud of but NOT cool to blame her for junk based on someone else's breeding decisions.

I HAVE to say it ... it's no wonder the best, most successful breeders are so reluctant or even refuse to sell hatching eggs. One of the things that makes a successful breeder is their ability to cull and cull HARD. They keep only the best and breed forward from there. But folks buying hatching eggs and just getting started are reluctant to cull. They want to keep them all, all these chicks from the fancy-pants breeder that they paid so much money for. And all that crap that the fancy-pants breeder would have culled (because **IT happens) gets bred forward and the fancy-pants breeder gets blamed. At the very least, if we decide to keep that less than perfect bird and move forward from there, don't blame the guy who sold you the eggs!

I'm so very sorry my wording is confusing.

I bought 2 sets of Ameracuana's. One is from Paul Smiths bloodline, the other is not.

They are suppose to be both the same breed and colors. I have no intentions of breeding these, but rather to show them through my children.

What upsets me most is I paid a lot of money for a 1/2 dozen shipped fertile eggs that were suppose to be pure bred blue and black Ameracuana's. They are not pure bred whatsoever and I'm not even sure of the color. Two chicks had straight combs, one of those chicks died.

If I were to breed Ameracuana's in the future, I'd buy strictly from the ABC breeders and a wheaten color.

I wanted to start off showing chickens with my children. I'd be preparing all I need to at home and my husband would take the kids to the shows. I'm disabled(from breaking my neck) and unable to leave the house.

I am sorry about my wording. It's never been a strong point of mine to word everything that is understandable.

Thank you chickchickchicky for clearing it up for me.

I apologize deeply for giving anyone a headache. It's never my intention.

You are very confused here she is not blaming the breeder she got the eggs from to say they were PS birds she was upset cause those were sold to her as pure Ameraucana and they are not. The only reason PS name came into it was because she has OTHER eggs she bought LOCALLY from a breeder that have NOT Hatched YET and she said that those are from the PS line of birds cause the breeder got his stock from PS make sense? So the ones that have not hatched are supposed to be from PS stock nothing more nothing less.
