Ameraucanas and Murray McMurray Hatchery

Oh and also this is my ‘proto Ameracauna’ from McMurray, Ada. She’s a very good layer, likes people, but can be a bully to other birds. Unless you were planning on showing I wouldn’t be too bummed with them as backyard or homestead birds.

That's interesting to hear. If I squint I could sort of see where they're coming from, but if they want to keep calling them Ameraucanas, they should start selecting for and breeding towards the SoP, otherwise it's just misleading to the customer.
THIS is exactly why we are doing this. To put pressure on them to conform their breed of Ameraucanas to the SOP or to change the name of their birds to Easter Eggers. Don't get me wrong, we love the birds we received, and their worth the price we paid, but they are not the real deal. It's 100% false advertising. We had to build an additional coop & run for this flock just to keep them because they will never be able to go into our Ameraucana run/coop as we had planned. And if faced with the choice we'd probably do it again, but we had the space & resources to do so. If we lived in town with ordinances or didn't have the space or whatever then these birds would've been a burden to deal with and nothing more. We're trying to ensure that other people don't have to deal with this as a lot of people already have & McMurrays has been told by several people these are not SOP Ameraucanas they're EEs, they simply do not care. That's not right.

Sooo...this is the answer we recieved today from McMurray when I asked them how they distinguish the difference between their "Ameraucanas" and their "Whiting True Blues". I replied asking them to identify this silver girl they sent me then since they claim the white one is my mystery chick.

Lesson learned btw. This time we ordered from a breeder a couple hours away who is listed in the Ameraucana Breeders Club directory. God willing it will only be a few weeks before we pick up our new batch!!!

Would LOVE to know what you get! I've had both BBS & Lavender Ameraucana - LOVE all 4 colors!!

Belong to both Ameraucana groups & was interesting during the split & then following as they got self blues (Lavender) included in the APA.

I don't currently have any Ameraucana, but want to get some again. The Ermine variety is becoming popular (project birds, not an accepted variety yet.). I would like to get some Silver & Self Blue Bantam Ameraucana as well as LF BBS.

Edited to add - cross her to a pure/True Ameraucana. Maybe you will get your beard & muffs, too!

What color varieties of Ameraucana are you getting?

How disappointing! Another sign that you do not have Ameraucana is no beards or muffs! I even associate those w/ my original EEs & OEs as that was many, many years before Crested Legbars & other hybrid blue egg layers (Whiting True Blues, Whiting True greens, Praire Bluebells, etc) were in existence.

A lot of current EEs & OEs will have yellow legs/beaks & crests due to CLB crosses... Just depends on what is used as as the blue egg layer portion of the cross used to make the EE.

We ordered BBS...they're out of stock on the Lavs, but with deciding to keep the EEs we don't have an available run to keep them separated. I will definitely be posting pics when we finally pick up the little buggers!!! I'll bet that was interesting! I've caught a lot of that drift when researching their colors & genetics. Seems like it's a love it or hate it with the Lavs. I'm still on the fence with the Ermine...but kind of feel like they have a cleaner look/coloring to them than the Splashes. We thought we had a Silver Ameraucana...still breaks my heart she's not, bc she is the prettiest bird & her legs are drop. dead. gorgeous 😍
Haha, we have some OEGB bantams...so my oldest daughter is obsessed with getting Ameraucana bantams! All I can say is if that day ever comes I pray they're not nearly as flighty as the OEGBs...
Thanks for the suggestion on our white! She is actually partial for the muff/beard & peacomb...she has the tiniest straight comb ever with small muffs/beard! We are definitely breeding her with the EEs next year!

Any new update from @Bean1028
McMurray told us she is a "pure, clean faced Ameraucana" according to their Hatchery president. Either they are all total bafoons or this is intentional...and I'm leaning towards intentional. They had zero interest in any of the resources I sent on Ameraucanas and EEs, even after they admitted to us that they supposedly "don't know what an Easter Egger is because we don't sell them."

We did order some Blue & Black Ameraucanas from a breeder here in Georgia. God willing we will be picking them up soon!! I will definitely update with pics when we get our new ones :))

I also plan to order the White Ameraucanas from Cackle...maybe this year yet, but probably next year...we will see!
