Ameraucanas and Murray McMurray Hatchery

Oh I'm going to order again from Cackle next year and it will be white Ameraucana, maybe Chamois Spitzhauben and some bantams.
I started mulling over their selection yesterday...oops! I'm thinking when I order the White Ameraucanas I will also add in another breed...but which one?!?! Lol. I'm torn. I want more blue breeds, but all of a sudden I find myself liking wheatens...and considering salmon faverolles. I am in LOVE with the zombie chickens & other similar. My oldest daughter is dying for more bantams! I just gave her all 4 of mine & she's dreaming of more. She really wants some bantam Ameraucanas...so we'll probably be adding some of those next year. I think bantam EEs would be adorable. Would love to find some blueish wheaten looking ones 😍

Sooo...this is the answer we recieved today from McMurray when I asked them how they distinguish the difference between their "Ameraucanas" and their "Whiting True Blues". I replied asking them to identify this silver girl they sent me then since they claim the white one is my mystery chick.
Well that's simply not the truth either, I have a white WTB that came from there 4 years ago, smdh...some folks
oops ETA..that has slate legs

Yeah, the white one we have has yellow legs & they said she is a WTB. The only bird we own with yellow legs. Our Silver girl has steel grayish blueish legs. Gorgeous legs, but I've never seen those legs on an Ameraucana...but I'm also not an expert & have read that somewhere around 25% (?) of Silver Ameraucanas can come out clean faced. What gets me about her is the black splotches running down the middle of her chest & of course, the legs. I need to replicate those legs! (Haha, never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would utter those words about anything!) Honestly she looks like she could be mixed with Egyptian Faymou to me. Several of our "Ameraucanas" have green legs...but they insist that's the slate legs they should have. I also saw some pics on their website that look like they keep their flocks mixed...I was horrified, but realize those could just be generic stock photos, so who knows.

Silvers might because they and Brown reds are the least worked on varieties of Ameraucana. They just aren't as popular as lavender, bbs and new upcoming colors. Also white and black are the best established of all the colors. MM has EE no matter what they call them other wise because they do not breed true.

:goodpost: I have Isabel's (also not a recognized color) but I can tell you, as light in coloring as they are, I have zero yellow legged birds. They are just blowing smoke! IME if you are buying pure Ameraucanas (whether it be eggs or chicks) you are paying $$$

Oh, believe me...we learned. Hubby found a breeder in SC who has all birds (except one type) marked down to $5/chick, including Ameraucanas supposedly. I was very tempted to go get 30 vs 10...but after much research on them I wasn't sold & opted to get the 10 that I know are real! I'm just barefoot & daydreaming about hatching eggs next spring in the meantime!!

I'll be honest with you...I did not like the Silvers, Brown Reds or Wheatens at all until we got our Silvara...now I'm kind of obsessed with her & very tempted to try to get a Silver roo...but probably not going to. We also swore no white birds...then we got our white "WTB" and my hubby fell in love with her...so now we need White Ameraucanas too!! But yes, every bird we got from MM will just be in the EE run...so glad my hubby understands he's going to be building chicken runs for the foreseeable future 😂

I understand that. I think the only reason I got the real deal my first time around was I researched for the 25ish years I was unable to have chickens.
