America is on Fire

I am in Santa Cruz. The air quality is still horrible. We had to evacuate and it was horrible trying to house the chickens and ducks. Everything happened so fast. We did not have enough crates for the animals and my husband just put them all in his truck bed (it is covered). They were not happy but it was an emergency. Fortunately, we are all safe now and everyone survived.
However, I think the people that are still at risk, especially in Oregon, might need shelter for their chickens and ducks. I am not sure how you would get it to them, but if there is an organization that would take donations to organize it, I think that would be ideal.

That sounds terrifying. I'm so glad that you are all ok.

The fires will be burning for quite some time still.

I am happy that you made through the fire in one piece!

The more messages like this are put out the better. I asked earlier in the thread if people would pass these ideas from here onto their Twitter. I'm praying word will spread so people who can will volunteer and donate.

I'm so relieved to know you are all safe :hugs

Redcross is great! Just not salvation army. I've run into a problem with my bakesale idea.....I have to make whole batches of things, or I'll end up losing money by making whole batches then selling like 1/2 of all of it. Maybe I can sell things in increments of 6 to match up with recipes? What would good prices be on that??

What about deciding on a set of items you will bake and then taking orders. Like 2$ for a slice of chocolate cake, 1$ for a couple of chocolate chip cookies, etc? Then you’d also have a good idea of how much to make and not lose money.

Edit: never mind, you already thought of that, you smart chick!

Yep! This is what I've decided on doing. I've made another thread for suggesting menu items and general bake sale execution.
