hi every one I am getting a pair of American Blues from Holderread farms. I have been on the waiting list for months last week they informed me the last two blues are mine. I am so excited, the money goes out Friday so by next week I should be a proud owner of geese. I want to know if they do better with crumbles or pellets. right now I use the Dunmore the 15% chicken feed for my ducks. I free range my ducks and lock them up at nite the geese will be the same. I was wondering if there is a site that I can order feed that is made for ducks and geese. thanks for all your impute .

Congratulations look forward to seeing them, The only duck/geese feed I have heard of is Mazuri it's not available everywhere so you'll have to contact them or your feed stores. Very exciting.

Very exciting! Make sure to post picture. Mine get meat bird crumbles and oates during most of the year. Along with all the grass available in an acre. During breeding season they get layer feed. Sometimes when it is really cold like last winter they get a little corn too.

thanks every one, miss Lydia I do use mazuri but it is for my tortoise I will have to check if they have it for the ducks and geese. if oats are fed can the horse oats work, I feed that to my donkeys.as far as dog food I feed taste of the wild to my dogs will that work.what about trout pellets I get that for water turtles. sorry for all the questions I am trying to use what I all ready have.thanks again. judy

I use whole oats and mix into my feed for my flock, they don't particular like it but since I have been fermenting their feed they will eat the oats. I have never feed anyone dog food and I use Taste of the wild to my dogs too. I don't think it's necessary to feed dog food if your feeding a good balanced diet made for poultry. One of our seasoned breeders on here RURU does recommend feeding black oil sunflower seeds mixed into their reg feed during breeding season for extra protein. which I do. Not sure about trout pellets you'll have to do some research on that. But if you can get Mazuri or a good quality all flock I don't see any reason why you'd need to use anything else except Blk oil sunflower seeds and whole oats if you'd like. Talk to Holderreads and see what they feed their geese.

High meats in the dog food can be good, but i only feed them this a week before a show, yet trout pellets are good for them the dog food i feed is mainly corn and its all not real meats in it, any type of cat food is also good but if ducks do get used to the taste of meat and enjoy it so much they will begin to feather eat violently, so just be careful giving any dog food to ducks since they are free range, all my ducks do it the corn kind of dog food Iams, my geese have never had a problem with the dog food ever and it makes up a fourth of their diet. oats are good for geese at times.

Well my geese are here they are so beautiful and so big. I will try to post pictures. at the moment all they want to do is be with the ducks . they are in a separate pen inside a large pen so I have the duck flock near by. I really don't want them together right now. when I get home it is dark and the ducks go in there pen for peas but I don't want the geese to go into the duck pen not enough room.so I hope they settle down. when it gets light again at night it will be easier. I hate the winter.

Can't wait to see them.

Congrats on your geese! I got Blues and Lavs from Holderreads a couple years ago and am very happy with them.

If you can get Mazuri waterfowl, I recommend feeding that. My local feed mill makes a "Duck and Goose" food that I feed along with the Mazuri. You might look into that, too.

I wouldn't feed dog food (geese are herbivores) and I'm not sure what's in trout pellets.
