American(Buff, Blue, Lavander, etc.)goose thread! Post pics!

Pics
They are messy but I really love them. We had our gosling in with ducklings last spring when we brooded them.

I got my first egg today from my goose Natasha. We did a fertility check and yes it was. Hopefully soon I can start incubating eggs.

We hatched & raised 12 Welsh Harlequin ducks last season, and boy they would mess up their brooding area every 4 hours, but yes we love them, especially now when they are older and provide us with nice eggs and follow us around the yard even through the snow!

Hi everybody,
I breed American Buffs and am trying to find other breeders. I am in need of some new blood for my small group of geese and would be interested in buying or trading some birds. Will try to post some pics of my stock tomorrow. I live in northern Michigan

Welcome Birdboy15! I may contact you sometime in the future for birds. It may be a few years now though. My goose became eggbound and so I only have a gander. I have goslings coming in a week and a half. So I will have enough geese for next year. Hopefully I will have better results. I originally could not find a breeder of buff geese so I have ordered my geese from Metzer Farms.

I can't wait to see pictures.

Birdboy15! where are the pictures?

Our first American goslings are out and dried off. We got two lavenders and one blue! One of the lavenders looks significantly lighter than the other, so I'm not sure what that will turn out like in feathers. We have another batch of 6 coming at the end of this week. All are for sale, so anyone that's interested, let us know! Pictures on their way :)

Where did you get your buffs? I am looking for a quality goose. I have a couple of goslings coming from Ideal. I am not expecting very nice birds. They just need to be company till I can get a nice quality goose, unless one or both of them really shock me and are decent. How many geese do you have?

If you had buffs I would have already contacted you. I really prefer the buff coloring. What colors were the parents. I don't know a ton about color inheritance. I know that males can be split for a color but a goose is not. Can ganders and geese both be blue or lavender? I did not know if those colors were like black/blue/splash in chickens. I am assuming that they aren't. I just did not know what is a dominant color. From what I understand if I breed my buff gander to a blue or lavender goose I would get buff females and buff ganders that would be split to either blue or lavender depending on which color the mother was.

I was originally a biology major who considered getting into genetics. I just haven't read much about the color inheritance other than buff and grey.

I got my buffs at a show here in Michigan. I have the original pair (in the pics) that are 4 this spring and two ganders and one goose from them that are two years old.
