American(Buff, Blue, Lavander, etc.)goose thread! Post pics!

Pics
I just got a pair of american. From a lady in Dalton (i didn't meet her, but my mom did) wthey are blue and lavender (blue girl lav boy i think she said) they are wonderful. they are pretty much terrified of me, but slowly warming up. They have claimed the old chicken coop as theirs, and when they see me, the girl walks away, and the boy comes at me with his mouth open.

I was afraid they would be different. but i can see them being one of my favorites. Although, i don't think that gander likes me. just a hunch lol

Dont forget, it is breeding season too, so that's a factor. Congrats!! Don't forget to post their pictures!

that is true. will give them that. they also dont like when i take the duck eggs out of the shelter. is it normal for them to not want me near the coop or pool?

Please remember even though they are adults ALL predators from raccoons to dogs can and will kill them if given the chance. Please be sure they are locked up and safe at night and all dogs are kept out of their pasture as well

everything you described is normal breeding season hormone filled ways

We are expecting our first geese from Holdereads, getting Lavs & Blues gooslings, sometime in May, will post back here with
pics when they arrive.

One question... are gooslings similar to ducklings in regards to being
messy with water in the brooder? Just getting prepared

They are messy but I really love them. We had our gosling in with ducklings last spring when we brooded them.

I got my first egg today from my goose Natasha. We did a fertility check and yes it was. Hopefully soon I can start incubating eggs.

With our goslings I know how bad they are with water and food when newly hatched and get messier as they start growing. So I went to walmart and bought what they call chucks. They are pads that you put under people to keep the bed dry if they mess it. Super easy to use as well. Just an Idea.
