question are American blues actually blue buffs? and my male buff has blue eyes is this normal. misslydia I will just pull the buff eggs .
I haven't ever seen blue eyes in a buff so I am not sure. Maybe look it up on line. and not sure about blues being called Blue Buffs i think they are 2 distinct colors same as lavender so 3 dif colors in the American.

Well it worked putting the goslings with the ducklings.  I did have the goslings with the chicks.  They got along okay but the goslings really seem to like the ducks.  Now everyone seems very happy.  When I put the goslings in with the ducklings it was very obvious how much they have grown!   Wow!  They get big so fast.  Won't be long till they can be outside in a more permanent basis.

Im just reading thru this thread! Interesting stuff! I thought i would add that i raised my pekin duckling with 2 CX chicks (one died shortly after moving to the coop) but my pekin has always taken care of her CX! When they were little the chicks would huddle up under the pekin to sleep...at the time i had no idea what kind of chicks they were or even what kind of duck she was! Theyre grown now and both started laying eggs at the same time but they still sleep together in their big bird hut and both lay their eggs in there! Theyre 2 peas in a pod...always together!

would it help that i just wormed them last week and there second dose is saturday ? After reading i found that maybe she is just depressed becuase she has none of the sysmptoms other than depression and wanting to be along she has a good appetite and still drinks normally and her feathers are very healthy . she has been this way since the end of july and from what that said is that she would have been dead by now so im thinking she is depressed because she did hatch babies this year only to have her mate eat them ( very crusum i would have been able to stop it had i not been on vacation ) anyway i think im going to take her to the vet again soon its almost time for her yearly check up anyway so it should be good.

misslydia I don't no what I was thinking the actual breed is American and buff and blue and so on is just color. I took a dada pill this morning. as far as the blue eyes maybe it will change as he gets older. I got the buffs from metza farms . there foundation stock was suppose to be from holderread . that's where I got the blues from. I wanted good breeding stock I am going to retire in 2 years and I want to breed geese, small scale.

I take those same pills some days too so don't worry about it. Sounds like you got some good stock there I Look forward to seeing the goslings when you start your hobby.

Hi everyone, I started a thread asking for opinions but I figure this thread would be a great place to ask too:

I bought these two juvenile geese this spring as companions for my lone roman tufted goose. She has taken to them and I will be keeping them either way, but I am starting to suspect they are not what I was told they are. I purchased them as purebred American Buff geese, and they both appear to be females. However, since buying them when they were, I was told, eight to ten weeks old, they have not really grown much and certainly not to the size I would expect. They are still a bit smaller than my roman tufted female, which should not be the case. They are on a diet of flock raiser and they graze all day, so it's not a nutrition issue. They also don't seem to be built like I would expect an American Buff to be. The breeder that I got them from is very reputable and only keeps this breed, and it was suggested to me that perhaps they are actually crosses with a wild goose father. Here is a size comparison of them next to my roman tufted female:

And a close up of one of them:

They are also pretty averse to humans. Even my most skittish poultry learned to run to me when I'm holding the food scoop, but these guys will not, and they do not like it if I start to even walk in their direction. They are also fairly good fliers, able to get almost above my head and fly across the yard, which I was not expecting.

So, what does everyone think? Crossbreeds? If so, with what?

I've had two people confirm for me in the thread I posted that she and her sister are indeed Canada geese crosses :/ It's the lighter chinstrap and slender build that gives it away, they said.

I saw that and I am not disputing their word I just saw this pic in another thread and thought the face was similar.

I forgot to say i have 2 ganders one a big Embden and my other is a Toulouse /Buff cross who looks more Toulouse. Toulouse is a nice breed and there would be a nice color contrast too.
