American(Buff, Blue, Lavander, etc.)goose thread! Post pics!

You might need to take a picture and post for people to respond. They could be Americans or Toulouse. Where did you get them? Most hatcheries don't have Americans in other colors than buff, except Holderread.

I caught my blue american "housekeeping" today, playing with sticks like making a nest. Does that make "he" a "she"?

X2 what flockman said, practically the only place to get blue & lavender American geese is from Dave Holderread. Also it might be helpful to chekc out the toulouse thread and look at their pictures of production toulouse to compare with yours. Toulouse and Blue American can be very similar in color. When Rae, (in picture) was growing up I thought he(she?) was an extra dewlap because they were so similar as goslings (slightly smaller, but no other difference) Then when no dewlap or keel showed up I realized I had an American. It's still hard sometimes to tell them apart when they're napping head-tucked on the lawn.

Kind of a crazy story... My Mom's neighbors raise chickens, ducks, and geese to supply their oriental restaurants. Some dogs got into their yard and killed most of the chickens, but 9 geese and 16 ducks escaped. My Mom looked out her kitchen window and saw all 25 birds running down the middle of her road, with some jackass in a huge road grader tractor trying to run them over! She ran outside and threw rocks at the guy to get him to stop, and then herded all of the birds to her pond. These 2 started following me everywhere immediately. The neighbor was so happy that Mom saved her birds that she let her pick 2 geese and 2 ducks to keep. She's had them since last fall, but never really wanted geese to begin with. I, being a softy, and being totally attached to them, told her I would keep the geese. They are still at her house until the snow melts and I can get a coop built for them (probably another 2 months, tops).

So, long story short, we have no idea where they came from. Most of the geese were the type with the knot on the top of their bill, except for these two, and another that looked just like them but with VERY light gray (buff?), rather than darker like these two...

Here's a few pictures...
