Hi All,

I am planning on purchasing a pair of American Buffs or Pilgrims. What breed is better for raising as pets with a family with kids? I am having a hard time finding a hatchery/breeder that will sell only 2 geese without a huge small order fee. We are in PA.

We got our pair of buffs from Metzers. They are great. My gander is a little testy right now because they have been mating and my goose is laying eggs right now.

My Buffs came from Metzer as well. They're very easygoing and the gander hasn't given my husband and I any trouble even though it's breeding season. However, he does NOT like our 6 year old and she can longer be around the geese without one of us right next to her to keep the gander away.

If you want a small order of sexed geese you can get them from Ideal. You could get 2 females and not have to bother with a gander. They're sold out of Buffs though.

Did you order two females? I am wanting a couple of geese but am kind of scared of getting attacked myself. Lol

Is it just the males that attack or both?

They ordered from Metzers, so it would just be a male/female pair or straight run. Although I think you can order just females of the Embdens.

It's mostly the ganders that can be aggressive, but the females could be too. My goose is a scaredy cat and won't even sass the chickens.
