American Gamefowl

While the similarities are there and actual gamefowl were used in making genetic hackle birds that’s not why I have them. I’ve never bred any American gamefowl with my genetic hens. For the record.

Do you happen to remember when whiting was selling full rooster taxidermy mounts..., back around the year 2000 or so?

I remember looking at their website back then....

Pretty amazing birds... I’d have to guess on the price ...now but way up there.... they obviously have worked hard to get where they are.
Yep I remember. I haven’t checked in awhile but they were like $250 then maybe more.

250 seems low... but 250 for a stuffed chicken might as well have been 2500 for me...

last time I looked I couldn’t find that they offered them any longer?

I just saw the solar motion light in the back yard come on... didn’t see what it was....

But if you’re a late night yard sniper type, reminder time...

If you’re a let the steel do it’s job fella... sit tight and keep talking feathers... or go to bed or whatever... I ain’t trying to tell ya what to do :p

The other interesting thing about Whiting is he’s a geneticist and as far as I know never tied a fly in his life. Lol that should tell you something about breeders.

With all that being said I still like Collin Hackle Farm in New York the best. More old school and used to be a commercial fly tyer. His colors are better and quality is similar but not quite the same density of barbs and length of feather.
I just like chickens and tying flies so what do I know.

I think I ran off everyone with a bunch of boring nonsense. Lol

I’m not sure I totally get your point.... I’m familiar with his genetics work.... I’m thinking you’re saying big difference between geneticist and “breeders” that don’t understand genetics?

Either that or “breeder” as I use that term is folks that have kids... but then your point seem to have gotten off in the weeds ;)
