To my notion a wildcat is any type of feral cat.
Could be bobcat. . black panther. . etc.

He was calling a bobcat a wildcat. He just always knew them as “wildcats”. We got it figured out once we waded through the hillfolk legends.

He was trying to tell me a wildcat was some other animal. I told him it’s either a damn bobcat or a house cat. I don’t subscribe to Bigfoot sightings. It’s just annoying.

Wildcat was common here too with folks of an earlier generation...

what added to the confusion a lot here is a certain percentage of our bobcats have ear tufts and a certain percentage don’t...

so some houndsman trees a great big Tom with tufts... and suddenly it had to have been one of those ‘wildcats’ grandad used to mention...
