American Idol

It's funny how much time rock singers spend trying to LEARN to do the controlled "rock scream" that Adam does so amazingly! It's actually been a staple of rock singers. Even the Beatles did it, albeit in a much more mild fashion.

Steven Tyler, Axl Rose, Robert Plant, Jon Bon Jovi, Roger Daltry, AC/DC (can't remember their names) and most of the heavy metal bands.......all sold a LOT of records using screams as a big part of their style.

"Dream On"....one of the biggest "scream songs" of all time!!! Brilliant.

Now, people are acting like his "screaming" is the biggest part of his singing....evidently, they aren't listening to the tremendous range this guy performs and I don't get all gushy about singers that often. But, I am so impressed with Adam.

nah, it was acceptable but not up to snuff with Plant. by no means an improvement. guess you had to be there. i still like Adam for the win because he's an original.

Did as in past tense? just trying to figure out the "LOL"

I think his voice is just as powerful today. My son mentioned he was from some "hair band" and I informed him that I was a fan of Coverdale from Deep Purple days to start with.

Adam is pretty interesting thats for sure. I also miss Allison too though.

plenty of HARDCORE ROCK SCREAMS THERE. Helter Skelter, Revolution, Twist and Shout is as raw as anything and solo albums had some real screamers too.
sorry not being a smart *ask* just giving due props to the lads from liverpool.

I love the Lads from Liverpool, but I kind of figured that their screams were not as much the "singing screams" like the more recent rockers, if you know what I mean? They were intended to be screams, not "scream singing"....the style just kind of evolved from what the Beatles did. Even in "She Loves You", they did that "oooooo" and shook their heads and that was considered racy at the time. Then, "Twist and Shout" was real "shouting".

But, my point was that "screaming" has been a big part of rock and to act like Adam should be penalized for including the scream type singing in his arsenal of singing tools is kind of ridiculous.

There have been plenty of Idol contestants who "screamed" instead of doing a solid rock "belt" and THAT is something that should be criticized, it is a totally different thing.

I've been very lucky to have had a career where I witnessed a large number of rock singers in the making and hear lots of dry vocal tracks in the studio. What's even more interesting is to hear what the engineer and producer, together, do to create what you actually hear on the record.

Im not at all confident that Adam will win, I dont know where Alison's voters will go. Im thinking probably Danny. But it wont matter in the end, tho it will to Adam, Im sure. Whether he wins or not, this years Idol competition will be all about Adam. That is who will be remembered, not Danny if he wins, not Kris (oh please..) if he wins, but Adam Lambert.

Im not a big music fan, I dont even have a DVD player, except in my truck, and I dont own one single music DVD. The problem Im having with Adam is that I dont like just listening to him, I like WATCHING him. Which is why I thought his live Idol version of Mad World was better than the studio version. I think he is, without a doubt the most talented Idol contestant ever, or maybe equal to Carrie Underwood. I hope he does well afterwards, because he sure deserves it, he works harder at performing than any other contestant, ever.

I think it's a chick show. My wife loves it. She records it to make sure she doesn't miss one minute. I hate it. Not one guy I know admits to watchiing it. What's kind of weird is I love music and have it on most of the time. My wife is mostly impartial to music and never turns it on. She does tell me to turn it down though.
