Thank you everyone, I appreciate the thoughts. And TailTuff you made me laugh with the double post comment. Last night wasn't easy and this morning isn't going to be easy either, now I have to bury them. But it's nice to know that I have friends on here and I have other little fuzzy butts to look after and eggs that are supposed to hatch soon. Everyone cross your fingers it was just something that these two had and didn't spread to the rest of the chicks.![]()
I am keeping my fingers and toes crossed for your babies and for your eggs! I'd give them a six day treatment of sulmet just to be safe. It's cheap and easy to use. Two tablespoons per gallon of drinking water (I mix mine up in empty washed milk gallons) for two days, then one tablespoon per gallon of water for four days. And it WORKS. I have had babies with droppings that looked like chicken giblets who were cured completely after three days of treatment. It's not necessarily anyone's fault and it doesn't necessarily mean "dirty cage". Mine like to play in their food and poop in their water. Even though they get fresh feed and water several times a day (hey - I'm a stay at home chicken mommy) it doesn't stop them from drinking and eating their mess in between time. Sulmet is only like $6 per bottle and it can treat 100 gallons of water - it's a very worthwhile investment to have it on hand. Even if they don't look sick it's best to be safe!
This forum, I tell you what. Up in the mountains here were don't have any of that fancy DSL stuff - we have good old fashioned dial-up!Raw and primitive just as it should be! None of that speed surfing mumbo jumbo for me. One webpage loaded every 15 minutes is more up to my speed. Anyway this forum tells me that it can't post my posts and I believe it so pretty soon my old post and my resent post shows up. I think it's telling me that everything I type is SO important that it ought to be read twice though I don't indulge in such flattery.![]()

Thank you! I will definitely look into Sulmet, I do give them medicated food, water with save-a-chick and apple-cider vinegar. But I'm always looking for something else to help keep them healthy and alive.
Dial up? Really?? I didn't even know Dial-up still existed... But I did read it twice.![]()
They are beautiful little fuzzy butts! Congrats!![]()
Well I am going to be prepared if anything happens now. I bought Nutri-drench, Sulmet, Corid and Grow Gel. As well as an Eco-glow brooder light, so no more busted bulbs from energy surges. And an extra brooder lamp just incase I bought Purina for my older birds and Medicated Crumbles for my chicks as well as Oyster shells. I have Save-a-chick and apple-cider vinegar, and that stuff that keeps the water clean as well as anti-biotics. So if anything happens I shall be prepared!Oh and I bought my self a new Brinsea Incubator as an early birthday present for my self.![]()
