I posted a new thread in the breeding, genetics & showing forum but might have better luck getting an answer here: do blue serama chicks only have that steel grey/blue down, or are there several shades of down? I ask because I've had a lot of buff columbians feather out of at least 3 different chick down colors/patterns... I never know what I'm getting! Anyway, I have a silkied that looks blue to my eyes but he had dark gold down with bronze on his back as a chick.

The down can be blue. But with seramas it can be a number of colors. i have a blue with gold and she looked chocolate as a chick
