American serama thread!

So, I have eggs on order from Laura! I'm so excited!

Wish me luck!
Good luck! Lots of good hatching energy for you! I candled mine this morning pretty quickly and it looks like half or better are getting good veining! I have 30 of Laura's eggs in, and 5 out of my Slash and Ava. I hope you get a great hatch from the eggs you get!

I think the mail truck hit an airplane! LOL Thats awesome though!! when do u candle again? Harmony (my daughter) will be sooooo excited if they develope and she can actually see in the eggs this time, the maran and brahma are too dark and our candler is horrible, but these guys you could see so well.... I should video tape her doing the day 7 candle! LOL

I wish I could raise turkeys, only trouble is I need an enclosed run or something for them, we are in the mnt and the wilds will steal them from me! I have a friend who said he would do the deed at the holidays.... still pondering that. What do you marinate with?
we bake our turkey in a brown paper bag and I only add butter salt and pepper lol....... I feel stupid reading that you marinate!

Sally, debating whether I should be honest or not??? Folks, please don't yell at me ..... I candle every night after day 4 right up till lockdown.

I kinda do just about everything wrong it seems, so I've come to the conclusion that the Good Lord is protecting the eggs from me. This is how I've been doing it, and only lost 1 chick so far, and that was an egg that I knew was internally cracked when I put it in the bator.

As for marinating the turkey, this is my first year trying it out. I'm a salt & pepper gal too. Found the recipe online, calls for rosemary, thyme, sage, kosher salt, apple cider vinegar, sugar, olive oil, and a lot of water. All ingredients in an oven bag with the bird for 2 days. It smells wonderful, and I'm envisioning the standing ovation at Thanksgiving Dinner already

. Okay, maybe a little ambitious!

gabrielle1976: I have a Serama hen exactly the same color as yours with the same problem (didn't get yours from Maryland did you?). Wish I knew why? It seems that even pet quality (which mine are) hold their tails up, just not as proudly as the better quality ones.

quick question guys- my Joe gave me a scare, he keeled over and was breathing hard, picked him up, almost like he had a seizure of some kind, i gave him egg yolk and started him on denagard- he is fine now, any ideas???

OHMY! Robin, You just experienced one of the YUCKY parts about the Serama breed....

SEIZURES . :( They can range from a nanosecond to a full-blown Grand Mal [type] siezure.

WHY this happens, how often it happens, IF it will happen, is any mans guess.

Be thankful it was a "nothing" one and forget about it.
It might only happen one time...I have experienced many of these, "Mother NAtures Nasty Tricks" as I call stuff like this.

My guess, is it has something to do with the downsizing of the breed [like egg laying/fertility issues] :old :)
