American serama thread!

Good luck on your hatch!

So I JUST ordered my first incubator! SO EXCITED!!! It should be here in time for the NYD hatch, but I think I'd rather set a little early and see if I can get a hatch on my Bday instead, since technically the incubator is for my birthday haha. Excited to join the hatching frenzy!!!

Does anyone use the Brinsea Mini Advance?
I've seen pictures online of people adding extra eggs to the rotating disc and wondered if anyone has tried this?

playing catch up-here are the babies, and i only see 1 cockerel!

they are funny little bugs!
They're all so ADORABLE!!! And your cockerel looks like he's all white (I think my all black one is turning out to be a cockerel as well!) Too sweet! Mine are starting to adventure on to my hands when I put them out for them :) Can't quite take them out of the cage yet before they panic and jump off yet, but I think it'll come!

kukupecpec, I really like that Brensea, wish I could buy one! I don't expect I'll ever hatch so many eggs again, and that would be just the perfect size, but alas, no... can't spend the money, though I think it's a great price for a great machine. Congrats, and Happy Birthday in case I miss it!!!

Good luck Alexandra!!!

Ok I have an odd question. What is the best or quick and painless way to slaughter birds? I have to finally consider dispatching the extra less desirable males. I hate to but I cant just keep them all. I grew up on a farm and my family used several methods but I want to ensure it is fast and least painful. Let me know some options. Thanks!

you could sell the excess roos on crags list- i have a friend that looked up a vet and he showed her how to take a scapel through the mouth directly into the brain- quick and the most humane- for me- i make extra pens for the roos or have them caponized- and they are official bug eaters- like the guineas are

Try a local feed store. Often they will take the birds as sell them for a few dollars in hopes of selling feed and additional poultry supplies to the person. I donate to a local feed store as "bantams" and not as "serama" as I do not want someone to use them in a breeding program and produce additional poor specimens of the breed. Also, if they are gentle and can be handled, petting zoos will happily accept them.
