Whatever you do, pebble that water source!! I have lost more chicks to drowning than to any other cause. You'll think you got it right but it's still too deep. This round, I'm trying the use of a classic caged-bird water tube with the narrow water reservoir, hoping to prevent disaster.

Peepit, my hen, used it immediately and seemed to just love it. We'll see--tomorrow is Hatch Day...!

I use quail waterers for all my chicks and haven't had a fatality yet. Washing/sanitizing all those marbles got to be a pain in the neck.

Hi, my Serama hen, Josephina, just hatched her first eggs! So far 3 have hatched and there are still 4 more eggs, so maybe more will still hatch. Do I have to do anything different for these chicks like crush their food or something? I've never had baby Seramas before

I grind up medicated chick starter in the blender and feed it that way. Use a chick waterer,not an adult one. And, watch for pasty butt!

Funny! Our duckwing cock we got from you in 2011 sure thinks he's hot stuff. He's hilarious to watch. My daughter named him Sir Henry. Last night I was trimming his nails while he stood on my knee and he crowed right in my ear. Ow!

Glad to hear he's doing well and you still apparently love him!

Lorilyn Farms, How old is Little Man now? My boys sound like that right now, but they're only from December 30th... a little over 8 weeks so I know they're gonna get louder Sirius Black, my older cockerel (18 weeks, I think) crows pretty loud but it just doesn't travel as far.

BTW, I put my two new boys with the others in their regular area and they got picked on so I brought them down to where I was working at the other coops, and thought, hummm this is neutral ground, so brought the older 4 over and put them together, and voila! No picking on the little ones! Amazing!

only problem with silkies for broodies, not all go broody, and then when they do, they stay eternally broody or mama mode...

I have 1 eternally broody, and 1 off/on broody.

I'm so upset with USPS right now. My eggs were supposed to be here on Thursday and they didn't show, so I expected them yesterday. They also didn't show yesterday. I checked online today with the DC # and it said they arrived in the state, just that they won't be delivered until Monday. They were laid on Tuesday, so now the fertility will have declined. I'm really upset.

That stinks. I am glad you are getting new eggs though. I hate USPS. We had chicks delivered last spring and they ended up being in the system for 3 days instead of overnight...1 of the 4 died.

He's about to find a new home with Heritage Seekers, who I know will love him right!
