American serama thread!

I just lost my old english rooster I used him to sex silkie chicks for me he would separate 3 month old males and females and he was only wrong twice. I thought a serama rooster would be a good replacement for him since they are so Tiny, chances he would do the job are slim but worth a try. Do they require any special care different from silkies and rosecombs?

They are not at all cold hardy. I think that would be the main difference.

Yep. That's what makes them so much fun. :)
X2 for sure....mine look pretty much the same to start with.then................who knows

I read once they change color 6 x's before they mature.
Don't know if that is true.....................

I moved my seramas outside a little less than a week ago. It's been in the 40-60's during the day, 20-30's at night. I was pretty nervous since they've been inside all winter, plus one is a frizzle and I don't use heat lamps outside, but they are doing pretty awesome. I'd just got my littlest pullet to stop being broody when I moved them, and she laid me an egg today. My other 2 have kept on laying, I've never had chickens that haven't stopped for a week or two after being moved. Love these little ones, if only their eggs were bigger I don't think I'd have other breeds at all. They are also friendlier out in their bigger pen. All 5 jumped on my shoulders and arms the other day.

This is one of my chicks, I am in love with this one. I can't wait until she finishes feathering out.

Random humor for the day.

and yes this happened to me last night the whole conversation was drawn out and hilarious!

So i was cleaning up getting ready to go home last night, and my co-worker comes to the back in a tizzy, saying I had to come with him. He brings me to a table of a family of four, (older children) and tells the man to repeat the statement. The man very pointedly states that to have baby chicks you dont have to have a rooster. I corrected it and he says, so there are three breeds! A hen a chicken and a rooster!? lol. City folk :)

I had a similar conversation with a lady who came to buy chicks from me. I told her about the ducklings I was getting and she asked "what for"? I said the eggs are great eating but I also wanted to hatch some ducklings out. Her response to me was "Ducks lay eggs"?

That sounds normal. Almost all of mine do the same little sigh at the end. He's probably crowing to talk to others. He's lonely. Chickens aren't made to be solitary. bring in another for him.
Here's my little crower, he does the same.
