American serama thread!

Yes, got something called Sulmet, a drinking water additive that is an antibiotic. It's supposed to help with infectious coryza, cholera, pulliorum and coccidiosis. You just add the recommended amount to the water. One of my pullets looked weak and sick at about 14 weeks of age and I didn't know what it was, so we got this stuff and treated everyone and in a couple of days she looked fine again.

So, I've been waiting for another member's crevecoeurs to start laying so I can buy some eggs to hatch and I got a bit tired of waiting. Besides, I have two boys growing up without mates so I took a bunch of Serama eggs from the pile I was letting grow to see if one of the girls would get broody and at the same time, I upgraded my home made 'bater with a new temperature controller. Anyway, Luna acted like she was going broody, but the moment she got off the eggs, Hermione took over. I took a bunch of the eggs and stuck them in the incubator and left Hermione with 5 to hatch.. I just counted the eggs, and I have 14 in the 'bator plus Hermione's 5, that's 19 eggs! And all but one are showing veins! (it's early yet, the one may still develop). I really only want 6 puulets, though, hope they don't all hatch!

Hello everybody, just catching up on the thread. I'm so, so sorry to hear about Stormy. That just breaks my heart.

A little over an hour ago my eggs were put into lockdown. Nine eggs out of sixteen have made it this far and are looking great! It feels like I had a lot of quitters, but this IS my first ever hatch, so I'm trying not to beat myself up too much over it. These guys are due on Wednesday. I've been so nervous that my stomach is just twisting its self into knots...

looks great! remember! seramas are slow hatchers!!!! if they pip and stay there its normal! when one hatches remove the eggshell so it doesnt bump the humidity so much. Good luck! let us know any pips!

I know you guys incubate alot. Is this because your hens don't really go broody? I've seen one of my hens and her boyfriend standing over her eggs as if they are discussing starting a family. Kinda hovering. Does this mean she is close to going broody, or wants to? Or are fresh-laid eggs really just the most interesting thing in a chicken's world?
