American serama thread!

Goodness, there are lots of bantam chickens in a big city like Miami! Have you tried craigslist.com?

I'm so excited, I hear chirping coming from the two nests I stuck eggs in last night!!! There is more than one (possibly more than 2!) I hope both of them hatched some chicks so they can both be proud mothers! Sirius is definitely a proud daddy, LOL.

I really hope they don't go broody again though.....

So I built this big "coop" for the house (neighbors can't stand my boys crowing, so they're house chickens 'cause I fell in love, stupid eh?) Anyway, I call it my Aviary, so it doesn't sound so .... farm in the house like,

I really should call it at least a cage, but that sounds horrible, so Aviary is a nice euphemism,

So this thing is huge and HEAVY! I don't know how we're gonna get it into the house!

Hubby asked me if I could take it apart again, oh dear no! And I didn't build the whole thing up yet either 'cause I knew it would get heavy, but had to build it outside 'cause I needed the room! We do have a sliding glass door ....???

Oh man. Your house sounds familiar!
PICTURES of the Aviary Pleeease =D

Also of your new babies and mommas!!!

I have 2 pips and can hear internal pipping in 5 more!!!!
One is even from my big chickens outside!
No serama eggs though, and the only activity from the cooler bator is the one egg that came from my EE =(

My Serama rooster, Duke, has had 2 episodes of either seizures or strokes in the last 12 hours. :(
I dont really know how old he is but I am thinking he doesn't have long before he will pass. I am so sad for him!!
Here he is in my arms just now as I held him thru his episode again.

Awwwww poor baby :< He knows you love him, and that he is safe in your arms...

Oh, they're under hens then?

So I go to check on the ladies and Harriet is off taking a DUST BATH with two almost zipped out!!!! I picked one up and it's shell fell off, so I tucked it under Hermione who is being a MUCH better mama, and put the other two eggs under her as well. There is movement in the one that hasn't pipped yet, I think it's a couple of days younger than the others (that's what happened, I found a started egg and put it in the incubator early on) If she leaves the nest with her babies and abandons the last one, I'll slip it back into the incubator which is working still (have early eggs from my crevecoeur girl in there)

Anyway, I haven't lifted Hermione yet to see what's going on. She is suddenly very defensive (well, for her, her pecks don't hurt at all, LOL) But she obviously doesn't want to be disturbed whereas before she was in such a trance, I could move her here or there and she'd just stay in the same position, LOL. It was rather cute!

I really need my "Aviary" in the house by tonight, the cage isn't as clean as I'd like it to be for babies (not as clean as I'd like it to be period, but I've been lazy as I've been planing on moving them, plus the girls have been sitting there)

Ah well, back to work!

ChknObsessedANG, how is your boy now? Is he any better?

I guess I probably should stop messing with my girls, 'cause I just looked in the cage, and Harriet was back sitting on nothing, so I gave her the almost zipped out egg and a whole one back. Not sure if it was the same one? Anyway, I lifted Hermione, and she has 3 chicks and one egg left. Hopefully my interference hasn't hurt the eggs!

If you are looking for serama, call Paradise Seramas in Miami.

I checked Creiglist and called paradise seramas with no reply :( I can get LF pullets the size of my serama on Sunday from my feed store. Maybe if I introduce them at the same size, they won't fight when the LF gets older

I haven't posted in quite awhile, but I try to keep all the posts read and know most of you....I wanted to show off my wins at the recent Cajun Classic. Total entries in excess of 400 birds.

2013 CC Champion Silkied Male and Champion Silkied Female (both homebred birds)

Yeah, I'm excited to get my birds from Laura, she is just giving them to me since they are pet quality birds and she just wants them to have a good home and be spoiled. We are meeting up at a poultry swap and sharing a table. She and I live 3 hours from each other and are friends on Facebook. She really is a nice person and her birds are so friendly and cute!

If all goes well I am planning on developing a variety of Seramas that I haven't seen yet. I want to create a Booted Serama that has either Frizzled Feathers. I think it will be adorable and quite a unique looking bird.

They are all in incubators, I just messed up. The EE baby is dead =(
She was probably 24-48 away from hatching too! Man I'm so mad!
She hadn't finished sucking up the yolk yet even. So I'm thinking maybe the cooler bator eggs are way younger than I thought... If so, have I caused horribledamage by putting them in lock down 2-3 days earlier than they were supposed to?

So the 6 in the brinsea are all pipped!!!! But not one has hatched, and the ones that had pipped this morning have not made ANY progress... What the heck? They are al chirping though!

2-3 days early will be just fine. As for the pipped ones that haven't done anything, the chicks sit with it pipped while they absorb the yolk sack the rest of the way, so no worries.
