American serama thread!

I know for standard shows, there have to be rules for judging, however I'm hoping, and I understand, that there will always be table top shows where color is never going to be a factor, and the birds will be judged entirely on type.  I hope this is true, because limiting these wonderful birds to a handful of colors would be such a shame!  A world where both can be accommodated is a happy world :love

Any color goes in TableTop showing. For ABA/APA they have to be acceptable colors. The ONLY color that has been stablized and accepted by ABA/APA is white. I know the Show breeders are working on Black. I personally think it is a shame to take away the "surprize" that comes with hatching serama eggs, you never know what color yer gonna get. And to turn them into cook cutter birds color wise.
You can show a serama in cage and win Best of Variety with a non-acceptable color, but that is all. But like I said before...who cares! I just want to ssee the personality remain and the type.
THAT is what makes a serama a Serama!

I got one of these Farm Innovators Thermo Cubes last year and really enjoyed it for the winter. I got the one that turns the outlet on when it gets 35 degrees, then the light goes on and heats things up until it reaches 45 degrees and then it turns off again. I had a frizzle serama, otherwise I probably would have gone with the on at 20 degrees off at 30 degrees model, so it would only turn the heat lamp on for especially cold days. Keep in mind that wherever the thermocube is plugged in, that is the spot that registers the temp.

This is really cool! I am not wanting to run electric to my coop at all. I've heard way too many stories about people losing their coops to fires, or losing their birds when the lights burn out overnight. I do have a small pen near the house that does have electric that I use as a grow out pen most of the time, so one of these will work perfect in that for my frizzles.

I bathe my cross beak weekly because she can't really preen herself. I use a mild body wash and then she gets completely blow dried - Brazilian blow out chicken style!

So cute! Why do you take her to school? That would be cool if I could do that at my kids school

I totally agree, but wouldn't want to take away the fun for people who want to compete for champion, to each his own :) i didn't know you could compete as best of variety, but I would assume that if a non acceptable color (currently, non-white) bird would win best of variety, it would take Serama out of the running for grand champ, or class champ, or whatever is next up or tops?! Still it would be cool to be able to at least win best of variety :)
I bathed my chicken 2 - 3 times these past 2 months. I am taking my chicken to my school tommorow and need to bathe her again! Is this ok?
I think it's ok as long as the soap isn't too harsh

I know! The first time I washed and blow dried my one girl, I couldn't stop laughing as she looked like a frizzle afterwards LOL
