American serama thread!

I have a rant....Hope nobody minds it, but I'm peeved!

There is this really snoody lady with crap birds who acts like she runs the barn with her seramas that were "Imported From Malaysia". You can really tell that she is either lying or the guy who sold them to her was lying, because her birds are nowhere near what the Malysian birds generally look like. None of them have an upright posture or a full breast, they are all C class birds, but just barely. The first year she had them she brought them into the county fair with toenails so long they couldn't even walk and when I confronted her about it she simply said, "it's open class, so I don't care how they look". She also has a bird die every year she shows because she brings them in underfed and I suspect WORMY! The first year this happened she simply said, "oh well" and tossed the dead serama into the TRASH CAN right infront of the 4-H KIDS! Like she was trying to say that her seramas are just Dollar Signs and when they are of no more use to her, i.e. DEAD, they are just trash.

Well, today I posted some pics of my Seramas on FB and she PM'd me to, "set me straight". She proceeded to look at my bird pics and not only tell me everything she thought was wrong with them, but also show me which ones of my birds were CROSSBREEDS! Sorry, but one of my supposed crossbreeds was Leonardo, who is an SQ A class roo from Laura. Totally not a Crossbreed...She also proceeded to point out invisible leg mites on my birds and tell me I needed take better care my birds! And to top it all off, she posted on a couple of chicken groups on FB a post that basically said, "Just wanted to warn you all about this girl named Sumatra503(not using my real name) who is a Scammer. She is selling Serama Hatching Eggs as Pure Seramas that are all out of crossbred birds. Just wanted to tell you guys not to buy from her because she is just trying to Scam You!" EXCUSE ME!

Sorry for the rant...

But I totally needed to vent. Now I have to go and clean up some messes.
I am glad you can rant here =) We have all had issues with people judging our birds. It's just not fair! Shame we can't all gang up and retaliate on her
I wonder if you can report her to someone... I don't know Anything about showing and SQ though so I have no idea who the higher-ups are that might be able to put her in her nice low place. We think your birds are awesome! And would gladly buy eggs from you to perpetuate your "crossbreed" abominations ...

*sarcasm! I promise!!!!*

Sounds like you need to post some pictures of your 'terrible crossbreeds' here to get more opinions, hee hee!! :)

As for her behavior at the show/fair, the barn super should be all OVER that kind of garbage; a friend of mine runs the poultry/rabbit barn at an OR fair and if you bring in an animal or bird in poor shape, you get canned on the spot and told to either fix it, or take it home. Anyone who shows their animals/birds should be proud enough of them to have them looking their VERY BEST when they hit the show.

And to lose at least one per show? Unacceptable in ANY format.

I would suggest that you approach your barn super and fair board and ask for a change in the rulebook that states that birds must be groomed and in decent condition upon arrival (and will be checked by a reputable neutral party, like a vet tech), or be removed from the grounds....and anyone who has an animal die from unknown cause during the fair must remove their entire entry immediately and the cages be thoroughly disinfected as soon as the entry is removed.

Ethics, ethics, ETHICS! Need to teach the youth that even adults have rules they MUST obey or pay the price.

This crazy woman has been in the 4-H community for years. I have heard other people talking about her and they all say that her kids used to show back in the day and they would bring a crap ton of animals(not just poultry) and that mostly they would be ungroomed and thin. Now here she is showing with her grandkids and it is the same thing.all over again. Everybody says she needs to go, but nobody will ever stop her.

Well, the thing is that the Fair Super doesn't give a rat's a** what anybody does.I have requested rule changes before, but nothing ever goes through for them because nobody cares and they just want to focus the money on the horses.

My hope is to just sit and wait for the current Super, who has been so for 6 years now, to finally just retire or something. Then I can swoop in and take her spot and change the rules. At the OR State Fair birds with lice are just dusted and then put in cages and a lady who had TAPED her pigeon tails into the proper position for showing(which is FAKING) was simply told to take the tape off before she put the birds in their cages. Really?

So, anyways,Crazy Lady put in her place(Banned from the Poultry Group she Was is), I am feeling better. This morning, however, I did get a PM from a lady buying 6 hatching eggs from me(these are Castle Delight Seramas she's passing on!) stating that the crazy lady had PM'd her telling her to back out of the sale, as I was a Scammer, so she would not be buying the eggs from me. Her loss, not mine, totally and completely!

Here are some of my "Crossbreeds":

Leonardo, Upright posture and tail carriage, admittedly he could use a fuller breast and be more upright, but that will come as he matures. He has already started to look better in the 3 weeks I've had him. He is 12 weeks old now I think.

Wyatt, He was about to crow in this picture, which gave him an awkward pose. He is about 6oz. above a C class bird, but he throws the A and B class babies, plus by his type you can tell he is pure.

Xander, He wouldn't stand still for me, but he has a nice upright stance and is a real poser. He is the same size as Wyatt, but also throws small babies.

And a Group shot of the Babies!

On a Separate Note:
drum roll.....
miss ebony and jet now have an adopted baby.... and get a load of the expressions!!

will try to get better pics when she is more cooperative

That is adorable! It is cool that her roo doesn't care, as well!
OMG? that was a typo! i didn't even realize lol i meant $20

she wants two unsexed chicks just because she wants to get into raising them! and thanks for being the only one to answer me!

On seperate note, this made me LOL pretty hard. I would have answered if I had been online and hadn't been super upset at the time I did post. She will be fine with it as long as she has other chicks to distract her. The chicks may be a bit upset for a day or two while they look for mommy, but will calm down eventually and become snuggly and cute again.

And Everybody's chicks are ADORABLE!

Whoa. Sorry, but it appears that that lady has issues.

But, you know, she might KNOW your birds are better so she feels defensive of her own.

I'm not entirely sure... But they have "picture of the week" and other photo contests all the time! At the very least you could file it away for the next photo contest =)
