American serama thread!

So this week is 24-35 overnight. I have always put a light on in nights 15 and under. My serama are only a week old so I'm gathering info basically. IF I can integrate them with
My Layers coop next summer will they snuggle in with them. Does anyone have experience in cold winters and an integrated
Flock?

Blessings,
Kandi

Well, it's dropping to about 50 degrees during the night, so I'm starting to get worried about Tweet... The poor little Serama is scared of the standard hens because they are nearly 3x bigger than him! Not to mention the Maran rooster, biggest roo I've ever owned.
I'm young, in middle school, live with my parents, so there aren't many choices for me.
I just don't know what to do with poor Tweet!
AHA!
I'll get him some chicken diapers and let him live in the house! Good idea? I don't know, I'm still new to Seramas, Tweet is my first one.

Ours have diapers, or a ferret cage for when they're out in the living room. Otherwise they have a bathroom that needs repairs to roam, along with a run outside. I've only let them out on the warmer days though.

Okay great, I'll try it out.

It really just depends on your LF temperament . I have English Orpingtons.............
I had 4 Serama roos that lived with them very well. It was to cute. At roost time
you could not see the Seramas because they snuggled between the big chickens.
My Rooster was a laid back guy..........................

I keep a pair in the kitchen in a large cage...really less problem than when we had parakeets.
I have an outside pen for getting them out to dust bathe and move around.............

Okay, so as you may have heard, I was gonna build Tweet a doghouse coop, I found a doghouse, and I want your opinion on it. I know, it's dark, but I'll try to email the seller for more pictures. It looks like a cozy little coop with a door, and I could easily build a nesting box.
2 feet x 4 feet, not bad for a few Seramas, eh?

Okay great, I'll try it out.

If I remember right a pair does fine in a 4x4 cage, might have even been a 3x3. Check craigslist for larger bird cages or I would think even a parakeet size one would work for while he's not running around. Our OEGB who is in with the Seramas loves her small animal cage (like for rabbits or guinea pigs) for laying her eggs or getting away from the "kids," poor old woman LOL. You could check for those also, although I know they sell them pretty cheap at petco and petsmart.

Which reminds me, for those who keep their Seramas indoors, have you used the grit paper that is sold for "pet" birds to help them file down their beaks? Or the roost bars with sand paper for their nails? I don't like the stress I seem to put them through trimming/filing their beaks and nails, but I also don't want them to get over grown during the winter.

I have a coop very similar for some roosters.........I added windows.. Works great and they seem to feel secure.
I added a run and can close the door at night
