American serama thread!

Aren't they a blast to watch and play with? AND around 4 weeks their individual personalities start coming out, MORE fun to come!

It would appear that one of my feathered leg chicks has green legs, I thought she was a serama cross but what would give her green legs, she is small and had tiger stripes down her back when she was a baby, now at 3 weeks she looks like this any ideas?

Seramas do come with green legs...believe it or not...depends on the parents lineage. I have had 2 pet quality ones with PEA green legs. :D

Thanks, everyday I see something different with them, I also have 4 big chicks who are also 3 wks, one of them sneaked out and one of my LFs was trying to peck at it and as soon as I opened the gate one of the other chicks shot and tried to stand up to the LF, I think that one is a rooster, everyone was fine in the end

So my broody is doing a great job with her 7 Serama chicks...but I am wondering though, because my whole plan in having Seramas is to have a flock of adorable and friendly little birds, but I can see that I can't do much bonding with them, although Mama doesn't mind me picking them up, they just want to be with her.

Do you think keeping the chicks with my broody will sabotage my goal of having sweet sociable Seramas?

Seramas are naturally sweet sociable creatures. When they hit the 4 week mark, their little personalities will start coming out and they will be alot more interested in more than just MAMA. What you can do now on a daily basis is put mama&babes in a pen and sit in there with them so you become part of their "brood", talk to them and give little treats when they come over by you.

Is there an actual opening in the egg shell? Is the membrane intact or torn?

The opening is a circular uh...circle?, and it's the size of the top of a tac. when I look in through it the membrane is light pink. The little pieces of shell on the hole are still there but separated. I looked inside and still couldn't see any movement or progress since last night

So the membrane is still intact? CAREFULLY remove the loose pieces of shell and cover the egg with a wet coffeee filter, need to keep that membrane moist so it doesn't shrinkwrap. Then cross your fingers pray and wait.. :fl
