American serama thread!

This is my new serama. What do you think of him quality wise?
Cute little mottled! He is too young to say much about him, potential wise. You're going to have to wait months before his true type comes in. Patience is a virtue when it comes to finding out what serama are the good ones. Once he's 6+ months old you'll be able to get a better read on him. I've got a boy born in oct. 2014 who is still changing from month to month!

Haha thanks. I like him I think he will be a good breeder (hopefully a show bird too) I got him from a friend who had too many Roos

I have two Seramas that are just about ready to be sexed. I'm going for 2 girls, what do you think?

Darla had a rough start and was picked on by other birds. It never got too serious, but she is missing quite a few tail feathers.

This is one of many. Any ideas on her color? Seems to be along the lines of blue laced, but I need a second opinion. Not quite sure about her age, either. And man, can she fly!

Sorry about the photo quality.

I think that both are hens! I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure

A 12 oz hen is a Micro. They are not the healthiest birds and generally never lay properly. Even when they do, their eggs are usually non-viable, and anything you could hatch out of such a tiny egg would be unhealthy as well. They are not producing birds, but I promise, you wouldn't actually want her to be producing. They're good as pets and pets only, and need to be closely watched for health issues.

If she is going through the motions of laying but has never produced, you're going to want to keep an especially keen eye out for internal laying. Weigh her at least once a week and keep good tabs on her, feel her keel for weight and feel her abdomen to check for swelling. Give her vitamins whenever she does lay to give her a boost because even a tiny little thing will take a LOT out of a tiny little bird, but don't pump her full of calcium to try and make her lay.. it will be a big strain on her organs and won't amount to what you're hoping for. Don't feed her layer feed, either. Give her pullet grower and leave calcium as free choice for her. Since she doesn't lay regularly, all the calcium in a layer feed can shut down her kidneys.

I personally don't consider her micro... A size yes. Pulling her from layer feed is a good suggestion.

He's starting his molt and missing a few feathers. I thought I might need to get a few pics now to compare later. I still can't think of a name I feel suits him.

I just compared today's photos to those taken a couple of months ago, I didn't realize how much he has changed. He's getting better with age.

Some one had asked a while back and I can not remember who about getting some eggs from Apollo and Athena. Well Athena is back to laying again after raising her chicks. Let me know. Shipped eggs are a crap shoot so they are only $25 per half dozen shipped. I have other pairs as well. One is a frizzled roo and straight feathered hen pair. Let me know. I also have a blue pair. I do not need to incubate anymore this season....haha.
