American serama thread!

I'll try and get pictures. They are fed layer crumble dry feed and right now the eggs are under a broody phoenix in my big coop the eggs get moved around but the aircells were weird before another hen got jealous. Half of the eggs are growing and I tossed several that weren't developing and one actually was about a day from expoloding under the poor hen. I have hatched Serama under this phoenix before so I know she can do it

So the baby just started pulling on the tip of his left wing & pulling out forward & squealing backing around frantically in circles! I extended really carefully both wings & lightly squeezed to see if there's pain in the right wing compared to the left. No reaction. Then I set him down & he frantically pulls that wing fully out forward & squeals again in pain. The feathers that are just growing in on that wing are now all wrecked from this behavior. I don't think I can wrap such a tiny wing to discourage the pulling but I don't know what else could work. Food is the only thing that is distracting him from doing this.

You can see the left side feathers bent out. This just started an hour ago.

Ohio.. I was super protective of my last Seramas too, when there was still two left, they NEVER left each other's sights, they were best buddies. One day as I was looking for them so I could shut them in the coop for the night, they were gone. After two days one showed up, looking quite ruffled. She just walked up to me and sat down next to my leg. I picked her up and she fell asleep on my lap. Before her buddy was eaten she hated me. I put her in the coop in her own special place and fed her treats and gave her a heat lamp. (She was still pretty young.) I decided she needed to spend some time out side and started letting her free range with the other chickens.. Mistake.. Darn eagles.. I was devastated when I lost her. I keep having dreams that I find her alive and well and when I wake up I am just like. "Why brain, why must you play these pranks?"
I'm so sorry! It's sad! I feel your pain. I had a pit bull hop my fence. in the 5 minutes we were inside. He managed to get 4 hens 2 of the top hens!

my Mille fluer was standing still on lawn mower. Thank heavens he didn't see her! She hAs not been the same since . She ended up loosing her feathers a weak later. Half my birds also stopped laying.. All I got was a horribly baffling response about what her dog did. Blew me away! Thank goodness my child was not out side.
Your story is sad I feel for you !

Thanks.. And she was just so funny and sweet and she thought she ruled the flock. I knew she was a hen and actually probably older then our other chickens because she squatted in front of my dog once. Must'f thought he was a roo. She once tried to crow too but I knew she was a hen. There was no mature roo in the flock at that time so I guess she placed herself as flock leader even though she would get picked on. But the turkeys would always protect her. Lol.

aww, it's sad cause people who don't own chickens think they are mostly for eggs. When in reality we end up attached to them! Especially the bantams! I just happened to get these cuties as a surprise . I am in love! Sorry for your loss! Will you be adding any more to your flock?
My Mille is the same way! Small but a big heart and tiff around my standard size girls.im scared to let them outside.

I am gonna add more to my flock. Yes, I never thought of chickens just for eggs. They are little family members. My girl was full grown at 7 inches tall. SO TINY! I know, banties are just so tiny and fragile and cute! We are probably gonna hatch some in the spring. We are also gonna build a really big PVC run for birds to small to free range all day and for pigeons we are gonna get.

we need it BAD! I'm looking at many to see what will work best.
I also want a long run for my bantams! I leave them in coop sometimes if I'm not outside at all moments. We also had a hock incident

good luck !

Thanks. I will try to remember to get pictures once my new coops finished. It is in a stall of a barn and there's a window in the stall, we're gonna knock out the window and make it into a little door to the run, which will be against the side of the barn. It'll be big because it will be the permanent living space for some of the pigeons we are getting and any Seramas or quails.
