Yes. In fact, my 1st generation Tribbles came from 2 smooth parents. Tumbleweed was my first 2nd generation Tribble.

Ya, I just made it up while watching Tumbleweed sleep when she was younger but there is a strain of Serama in Malaysia known as Ball Serama. I can't find much info on them other than that their shape is spherical but my Silkied birds seem to be throwbacks toward that body type and that is what I am trying to breed towards with my Silkied Serama.

i just sold all my pigeons... kind of bummed... but with the money i got a new racquetball racket, and now have a lot more room for serama!!!...

LOL...

so... i wonder if pigeon math is the same as chicken math... let me jot this equation down... i got rid of 11 pigeons and emptied 2 coops...

11P+2C=S

11P=6large+5small

2C=2*3'x2'x4'coop with two nest boxes each

so...

11+2+6+5+2+2+3+2+4=37

37... sounds right to me...

POOR GUMBII,

I have seen my share of Widders by my house, but haven't gotten bit...its that bad huh??? I am not a fraid of them BUT I have a very healthy respect for em. Cockroachs, grasshoppers &tarantulas, if they were to crawl on me, I would start screaming and hyperventilating.

the irony is that i've had tarantulas and HUGE tarantulas as pets... but it's the small ones that scare me... LOL... i've been bitten by black widows twice... TWICE!!!... they didn't want to kill me, just make me suffer for two weeks...

it's okay sue... everything and i mean everything... EVERYTHING bites me... i've been bitten and stung by every animal i can thing of... well, except things that i would need a rabies shot for... like a squirrel... LOL... but snakes, turtles, lizards, spiders, ants, frogs, dogs, cats, pet rats, hamsters, bees, scorpions, corals, triggerfish (ouch), small sharks, other fish, women.... men...

everything...

LOL...

oh, i plan to build lots of breeding pens, grow out coops, and more brooders... already have a third incubator... lol... as soon as it cools down, i'm gonna start building... actually gonna tear down my walk in coop to make some different coops where my egg layers are... woo hoo...

Quote:
Better start with a few less than 37 so you have room for hatching some chicks!

but that takes FOREVER!!!!!...

lol...

i'm just kidding though... i'm gonna put the roo's i got from kate in those coops... then start building building building... i don't plan to get that many serama roo's... but i can never say no to moar hens...

Ruthless has some very sound advice there Gumbii.....otherewise you will be selling off one of the human kids to get more wood to make more coops! Just HOW much land do you have over there.......????????

Goodness graciuos you are a biting magnet! You must have some sweet, tasty skin there guy..........

I just got a baby Serama chick, 2 days old, but I'm not sure on how I should go about with her. I'm aware that they are very small chickens, so are their any special things that need to be done with raising them? Btw, if you could list the pros and cons of the breed that would be awesome. I'm really excited for her to get older!

hmmm...

the only cons i could think of are their tiny eggs... barely a bite, and they're also hard to hatch... or so i hear... another con would be putting them with larger bantams or standard sized chickens...

one con i discovered is that the hens are mean... LOL... when introducing hens, they give me a LOT more trouble than my OEGB hens... oegb, i just throw them in and they peck once, then it's like they're friends since hatch... HAHAHAHA... but not serama hens... roo's are a different story... they seem to be less aggressive IMO than OEGB or other game-type roo's...

another con might be that they free range poorly... but i'm not sure since i haven't had any free range... but they seem a bit too docile like a silkie when i let them out.... they just stick to their roo and let any one or anything get close to them... me no like...

oh, and they can fly... like a pigeon... that's if they are very flighty... but if they are calm, they hardly leave your side...

that's all i could think about really...

pros are that they are sweet, smart, and can be trained to stand on a towel and not move... they look gorgeous, always a surprise when you hatch them, you never know what you're gonna get... they need very little room or small pen/coops... the roosters aren't as loud as most bantams... but i have heard some very loud serama roos compared to my OEGB roos... they're also still very exotic and have a great resale value if you have nice stock... i've also noticed a lot of serama hens are very talkative... i love that in a chicken...

my advice for that chick is to treat it like any other chick... marbles in the water, when you switch to crumble, break it up a little more... have fun and post pics...
