American serama thread!

Hi, I'm also new to seramas. I have 4 tiny serama chicks that are now about 3 weeks old. I noticed that they are very active and always jump, fly and pick friendly fights against each other. Nevertheless I enjoyed watching them chase each other whoever has the worm treats and play tug o' war. I can watch them all day, free entertainment LOL.

I am honest and if you ask I will give an honest opinion good or bad.!! wow this thred has been busy!!

Hey Bobby, concerning the white boys we have (father and son) that don't know quite "what to do" with the ladies. I put my boy Murphy out today with two new ladies in a nice little coop in the green grass in the fresh air. He danced and danced, chased them, pecked their heads until they squatted AND nothing.

THen he chortled to them, dug them up some bugs, danced some more, pecked their heads until they squatted AND nothing again. I really think he does not know what to do next.

He was really happy to see them and had all the little moves down except the main move.........Frustrating!

Does anyone have any ideas? I have had this boy and his sister for 3 months now. She did not lay until about a month ago, even though they are 8-10 months old. Only a few of the eggs have developed at all but no hatching.

They are not really tiny either and he is a really nice looking cockerel. Probably could be shown if I was so inclined. they are 3rd generation whites and I am thinking they may be too inbred to produce, so am splitting them up and hope to get some random whites from them out of other partners.

Hi Def keep her warm. Def change water daily. ground up her chick crumbles.(I use game bird crumbles) Higher protein. Oh change its bedding. Alot. cleaner the better. This is the best advise i can give. If you do all of this your fatality rate will drop. I have done by trial and error. And its the best that i have come up with. If you have problems. def ask. alot of people on here will help. Serama people are the best.
CONS/ Very addictive. they will grow on you.

Make sure your chick crumble is very fine, so they don't choke. Use quail waterers in the beginning so they can't fall in and drown. They will need heat, and remain in the brooder longer than other chicks. Watch for pasty butt, my two littlest chicks had constant pasty for 3 weeks. They are fragile, don't let small kids play with them until they get much bigger.

I feed the babies hard boiled egg yolks, crumbled up finely, along with medicated chick mash.

Pros: I absolutely love my Seramas, mine are indoor/outdoor pets. They have great personalities, easy to handle, very friendly.

Cons: Their small size makes they easy targets for predators.

I found the best thing for pasty butt is adding a spoon full of apple cider to the water and no more pasty.

Been meaning to write that. its been working wonders

I've read that before. The two chicks i had problems with were/are extra small, though. The normal sized ones never got it. I figured maybe their little systems didn't have enough oomph to push the poop all the way out?

Oh alot of mine are small. And i thought id try it.

so glad i did. i still get it once in awhile. But very seldom. It awesome. well i have two waters the other is vitamins and electrolytes and i let them decide.
