American serama thread!

I know you werent talking to me ra, but I'm very interested. How much would it cost for the eggs and to be shipped to NC? If TJ's not interested ;-)

Okay, thanks for the info! What kind of lighting are you using and how can you set it up? My hen who was already laying has stopped and I would like her to start again. Mine are under infrared heat, and it doesn't seem to work the same.
A fluorescent shop light. Hangs from the ceiling on chains. Timer set for 5 AM turn on and a 10 PM turn off.

I've got eggs from a young white-legged Blue & Silver Silkied Serama hen
and a smooth-feathered Blue & Silver hen with yellow legs.
The Fathers are Silkied with yellow legs.

About a dozen eggs total. I'm not going to let any more of my hens set on eggs until Spring.
You can have them if you want them?

I would love to try them. I know it's really hard to hatch shipped Serama eggs. I ship eggs from my Seramas as well. It's always worth a shot, sometimes a few work out. Please pm me with how much you are asking and paypal info....Thank you.

And it works well? Yours are still laying?
Yes, very well. My hens are laying except for the three that have chicks and another that is molting. I also have finches that nest all year. My conures also nest whenever I wish. With light and some heat my chickens lay, brood, and raise chicks year around.

www so cute! Sorry for all the questions, but doe to the set up I have this year I can hatch chicks during winter and hope if I do they will be laying by summer... So can I get one of these lights at, like, tractor supply, or do I have to order it?

I'm not really sure. Most things I ship are under 13oz so I use First Class.
I think Priority Mail for a pound or two might cost $6 or $7 now, likely more to Cali?

I recently shipped 2 dozen eggs to FL. Priority for 3 lbs was $16. One dozen should be under 3 lbs. I use the large priority box filled with peanuts. I wrap each egg in strips of paper towel, then strips of bubble wrap and put them in an egg carton in the middle of the packing peanuts.

With any birds, you run the risk of depleting their calcium stores, no matter how much calcium they eat, by using lights and encouraging year round laying.
