American serama thread!

Yes. The next ones-nothing hatched. Things average out. When it comes to shipped eggs the average is pretty low. Fun, none-the-less.

yep!

Yesterday my dog Killed one of my serama hens when she had gotten out of the pen, Need more predator proofing... It was a rough day

Sorry. Wouldn't it be nice if serama were a bit more durable. I'm betting your dog would run from my white silkie when she has chicks-I do!!!

haha yeah, He was weaned at about 4-5 weeks old so he doesn't understand cues like that, He would probably just try to play with her. He was defiantly scared when we where yelling at him!

I use this hen when I have eggs that need the royal treatment. Nothing bothers this hen's nest as she is a terror; only one rooster is "man" enough to get close to the nest box and not get attacked. Lately she hatched five (from six eggs) of the frizzle chicks and these I returned to the real mother who was brooding dummy eggs. Frizzy is the absolute bottom of the pecking order-even under the half grown chicks. I deemed it unsafe to let her have real eggs. Now Frizzy is on the dining room table in a big tote. There she will stay until the chicks can run fast enough to get away from danger. I didn't let the silkie have the chicks because I like to look and touch the chicks. I had another serama hatch four Frizzle eggs. A good hatch all around-9 chicks from 10 eggs.

My hens have begun really pumping out the eggs.
They used to lay every other day but I've collected 2 dozen in the last 5 days.

I don't want the eggs to get old and I don't want my hens to start setting yet.
If anyone wants the 2 dozen, I'll send them all for $30, shipping included
or $20 for 1 dozen.

Jeez! Me with NO BROODY hens, too many bills, and moving in June. I really, really like your birds. Is cryogenics used with chickens????HAHAHA

Seriously Ra_, I hope you are selling eggs next summer.

Porcupine update:
She is happy and healthier then ever and doing great :)
But still no more eggs :(
But it's ok...
I wonder if she's putting all her nourishment and energy to feathering in instead of producing eggs...???
Can they do that?
