American serama thread!

Around ten. Six being the smallest clutch and thirteen being the largest clutch. Those that have more than eight have the extras fostered to my silkies or the serama hens not suitable for breeding. At times, extra eggs are used in the kitchen.

thanks, I have a hen that almost always lays in one nesting box, Now she is laying eggs right next to the nesting box, and after she lays an egg she sits there for about 30 min to an hour. I think she might be starting a clutch, Hoping! Thanks so much... Its the super nice silkied hen, If she does go broody I am going to try and replace half the eggs with some from my other pair

Do you leave her eggs?

mark the eggs she can keep- they should be an odd # it fits the nest best that way, and don't let her hatch 40 it looks cute, but makes a big mess. 5-7 I would guess.

No. If the hen acts like she has picked a nest and continues to lay there, cross fingers and toes for good luck... Just continue to leave her eggs where she puts them. Once she is broody you can switch eggs around as you please. Good luck!

thanks so much, I haven't had good luck with broodys for a while, Since my cochin Died
