Is there a good book specifically about Seramas? I'm going to be getting some in a few weeks and would like to gather as much info about them as possible.

I already have general chicken care books (Storey's Guide, etc.).

Theres a good book called introduction to serama bantam by carrie wright that i bought off ebay its got some good info and i think jerrys seramas has a book on serama colorer's i don't know of any thing else .

Thanks Gumbii....he was 3+ months old when I took the pic, his saddle and hackle feathers are more uniform now as he matures. Hey, is it posible to create a cocopop color with dark brown base instead of wheaten? I have carefully watch my chicks lately and they seems to have most of the db characteristic in chick down feathers. I have compare my cocopop to Cara's and my has darker brown they hers. Awh man, where is that chicken calculator when I need it.

I use the positive reinforcement method to train my birds, I reward them with wild bird seeds if they do what I want. Fyi, the mealworms are rich in protein, they will make your bird's comb grow big and increase it weights.

i'm not giving mealworms... i have them on junior mix... it's 18% protein, but i'm cutting it down for them with scratch... just gotta buy the scratch... LOL...

and it is possible if you're talking about the fawn/dun or choc gene... i have seen some serama around that are dun tailed buff... wait... what dark brown are you talking about..? partridge...? i have also seen some fawn patridge hens... i think i have one from dennis... WooT!...

so... you want me to take cowboy to joey's table top boot camp...?

I believe the ideal protein percentage for serama is 16, I use the Nutri-Blend Green and Gold (pigeon pellet) for all my birds...the scratch and wild bird seeds are given to them as treats while training or free range.

I am talking about the choc gene in my double laced cocopop silver duckwing line....after all the intensive reading on genetics, I looked at my chicks down color and got me wonder if the choc gene in my flock was created from a Db base instead of the EWh base. According to the chicken calculator, you can get Choc from Db/db X Pg/Pg(penciled/laced). Is it possible???? What is your plan with the fawn patridge hen you got from Dennis????

Yah, send your boy to boot camp!!!!!

I don't mind give my girls the extra 2% of the protein but I want to keep my boys' combs and weight small.

I fed all my birds with 16% proteins feed and I have not seen any changes in the girls production.

Thanks. I saw the book by Carrie Wright on Amazon and wondered if it was worth buying. I wasn't able to find anything else on Amazon. I'll google Jerry's Seramas and see what I can find.

Sigrid van Dort has the 'Colour' book, also one called 'The Serama...a living work of Art'...can't remember what I paid, but a nice book. There is also 'The Serama Handbook' by SCNA member Josiah Woodfield...a loose-leaf spiral notebook...I think cost about $10. I don't know if there are still copied of either available, but you could find out through SCNA.

well thank you very much junebug . i had no clue serama books are very hard to come by thats for sure ! i'll have to go check that out !

I have some serama that I basically rescued over the weekend that need to be re-homed. If anyone is interested, PM me, please. Very, very small re-homing fee basically to just cover my gas. All birds are in molt so tails are looking to be in poor condition. All birds are healthy and approximately 1 year old. As far as breeding, I know they originated with birds from Jerry. I am willing to ship weather permitting.
