Dang it! I don't know what the heck is going on. WE have 7 SLW and no issues whatsoever with them for 2 years now. I got a trio of Seramas in June, and was really excited to recently find that the 4th that was added in to my order was a little cocoapop cockerel. Was given another SErama rooster with a "summer cold" and treated him with tylan, etc, and he and the original rooster (not the cocoapop) both died mid July. I just assumed it was probably CRD, although the one rooster never had any symptoms.

This morning when I got home from work, I noticed the little cocoapop rooster (only rooster left) was acting a little puny. I was soo tired, and he didn't seem distressed at all, was moving about, etc just not quite as active as usual. I got up this afternoon and didn't see him, and found him dead. He felt a little thin. I had just checked them for mites, and didn't find any (they were heavily infested when I got them.) His comb was sorta laid over and purple, but not sure if that is normal after death anyway. Comb did look a little funny this morning.

Sigh.................I am so discouraged. I have 2 pullets left. One has laid 2 eggs, but she really is just pet quality. Other one seems to be pretty decent. So now I just have the 2 pullets. I spent a LOT of money on the trio and it's very disappointing to lose them like that. I really want to breed Seramas, but not if they are going to continually die off on me like that. UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

serama die mysertiously sometimes its odd and does happen..... maybe contact the breeder you originally got them from and find out if they are able to help you with a decent discount on another roo.

and kate at ocseramas does sell pullets and hens from time to time LOL looks like last bird pictured is a hen. kate is super nice you might wanna give her a ring or email and go down to her place and pic one out if you dont like the one in the pic

Just really stinks. I really like the cocoapops in particular, and he looked like he was going to be show quality.

I am tempted to give away the other 2 pullets and just start over. Grady Taylor is only 5 hrs from me, so I may go down there and see what I can afford! LOL, then will add to the flock once it's not so darn hot.

Drives me crazy, the darn critters eat better than we do, and get more medical attention......faster than we do! LOL

i'm not giving mealworms... i have them on junior mix... it's 18% protein, but i'm cutting it down for them with scratch... just gotta buy the scratch... LOL...

and it is possible if you're talking about the fawn/dun or choc gene... i have seen some serama around that are dun tailed buff... wait... what dark brown are you talking about..? partridge...? i have also seen some fawn patridge hens... i think i have one from dennis... WooT!...

so... you want me to take cowboy to joey's table top boot camp...?

I believe the ideal protein percentage for serama is 16, I use the Nutri-Blend Green and Gold (pigeon pellet) for all my birds...the scratch and wild bird seeds are given to them as treats while training or free range.

I am talking about the choc gene in my double laced cocopop silver duckwing line....after all the intensive reading on genetics, I looked at my chicks down color and got me wonder if the choc gene in my flock was created from a Db base instead of the EWh base. According to the chicken calculator, you can get Choc from Db/db X Pg/Pg(penciled/laced). Is it possible???? What is your plan with the fawn patridge hen you got from Dennis????

Yah, send your boy to boot camp!!!!!

you can have a wheaton Db/Db... it's just going to be a black tail... like a black tail buff, black tail white, black tail whatever... Db gene just makes the tail black...

that said...

i don't know what you're talking about... HAHAHA... sorry...

i'm getting a couple of hens from dennis... so they're just going to be pared up with whatever roo i have... the fawn partridge hen is going to go with cowboy... the chocolate laced salmon or whatever... i want to test and see if my roo is chocolate or fawn... if i get half black roo's but 100% chocolate hens, then he's chocolate... if i get black, khaki and dun offspring, then i know they're both fawn/dun... i'm also pairing him up with a black hen as well... oh, and a black wheaton... to make more of him later on... woot!...
