American serama thread!

I've only hatched them once so far, but had a great hatch with shipped eggs, and used about that same temp/humidity.

5 weeks now, someone please confirm this is a female:

Edit to add another pic

Sometimes they can fool you but looks like a girl to me. My boys have a larger comb than this by 5 weeks.

This year my hubby and I decided to hatch Serama.. Out of 13 eggs one made it.. She's a doll.. A little over 2 weeks old now.. Had to get her a friend to keep her company.. Right now she's black and white.. Will the color stay or will it change? I'm pretty sure it's a hen..thanks!

Black colored birds often have a white or yellow chest like that at first. Here is one of mine at a few days and then at 4 weeks. You can see her white down is being replaced by grey feathers. Her color is called blue, which is essentially black ("blue" is just a gene that turns black into grey):

So far my little ones black fur is coming in with black feathers.. Nothing yet has come in on her white.. Yours is Very pretty!

Adorable bird and lovely pics! How did you take those? They look like paintings!

Thanks! Pic of setup below. I use a plastic tablecloth over a table (it's now clipped onto the background board seen in pic to create a seamless background). I have one flash that's triggered on the left, but you could set this same scene up by a window. Just have the window to the left/right of where you pose the bird. A white surface on the other side helps to bounce light back in to soften shadows (& helps create a box to keep the bird on the table). A bed sheet is a good material to start with. And another sheet between the window and the bird will soften the window light.

Thank you! You should start seeing the chest feathers coming in soon. Did you hatch her from shipped eggs or do you have a pic of the parents?

I have had the best luck with the temp at 99.5-100 and the humidity at 30%-35%. Good luck!!

Thank you! I've decided to wait until next month, like originally planned, to get eggs from my favorite breeder on BYC and a breeder on eBay! My reasoning is because I would like my pair to come from a different bloodline and I want a colored male with a white female! My favorite breeder on BYC has the prettiest colored Seramas and a breeder on eBay has the prettiest white Seramas! So, next month when I get my Serama eggs in, I can go through their incubation with you all! (:

Your Serama is BEAUTIFUL!

They were shipped.. I did get to see the parents pics though.. Most were mottled.. Some black/white others brown/white/red..the two roo's were typical colors.. Almost like a bb bantam.
