American serama thread!

To start with: Breeding history of the breeder. Comments from other purchasers. Do they belong to any national clubs like ASA / SCNA / SeramaUSA? See pics of MAMA&PAPA ask for pics of other offspring. Do not buy from E-BAy / Craigslist etc... a good breeder will not sell there simply because they do not have to. Word of mouth is the best.
As for looks: are U personally looking for SQ or just pets?
A serama should stand very vertical, have yellow beak and legs (unless they are black then they can have swarthy colored legs&beak)

Here are some examples I have handy:
This fellow IS a bonified serama (rip Emmit) but he was hatched like7-8 years ago when serama were still VERY new to the US. He is a terrible example of a serama BUT he was the friendliest soul.

THIS IS what a serama should look like ar at least somewhat close to this stance/posture/pose....

Look at the birds on the OCSerama website that will help too

I found more examples: these birds are so-so OK quality BUT they still have that serama look

I looked at photos on that website when you posted it earlier. I have read most of the clubs sites. I'm not meaning to be a pain, but I consider this site to be research too. Thus, my questions. Reading the verbage is one thing, getting frank answers from real people is another. And sites like that may answer alot of questions, but not all.

But before I ask another stupid question here, I'll go do some more research.

I appreciate your passion for the breed, and your willingness to share.

Thank you for the vote of approval.YUP I am a sucker for a cute face and totally dislike people that lie/cheat and steal.
Alot of breeders started out conversing on this very site, but when the wave of New-be I know everything and the Charltens selling anything as a serama that was small to the unknowing started then they went away.
I am more than happy to answer any question to the best of my ability on these WONDERFUL birds, just ask away.
Me and my PEENUT :love

I like the top one better, the second one looks like his tail is too far forward, How old?

Roo #1 has a right vertical stance wings are a true vertical, wing length nice yellow / yellow legs / tail is nicely upright but his back is too long, there should not be any air space between tail and back. He has a nice chest but it is alittle too low. He IS a nice representation of the Serama :thumbsup
Roo#2 is alittle more horizontal and has squirrel tail (genetic OOPS caused from japanese bantam) his back too is alittle long.BUT he is a cutie and i would not be ashamed to have him in my basket.

All these opinions are based on Table Top showing .

Which of my boys looks better?

Roo#2 is alittle more horizontal and has squirrel tail and too much curve in the sickle feathers (genetic OOPS caused from japanese bantam) his back too is alittle long, his chest is higher and more desirable than #1.

Thanks for the opinions, they are right at 7 months. I don't show, so they don't strike the pose on command. These were just normal candid shots.

I see that both their backs are too long, had not had the squirrel tail pointed out, so I really appreciate that.

I have some almost 4 weeks old, and I think 3 males, so I've got some decisions to make on who to keep.

Thanks again!
