American serama thread!

These birds are not "pure" serama. The Daddies tail feathers are not correct, and he has white earlobes (which in the so called pure lines is gone.) The kids are just so-so. NOW are they friendly? Do you just want them for funnzies? then who cares, BUT if you are looking for show quality or to breed and sell, get better quality to start with.
2 girls and one boy
True seramas are a product of many different types of birds that were crossed together to get a very upright vertical stance and the temperament that makes a serama a serama. :love

Theres not friendly there skiddish

Are these pure seramas? I think they are leghorn mixes as they had exchequer leghorns and oegb as well and what are the sexes all are the same age...i think theres two roos and a hen

These are the so called parents there was also a solid black hen

I agree with 1 cockerel and a pullet, I wouldn't call them pure by any means.

WOW! and they still are skittish! :( Did U get them for breeding or just for pets? There ARE alot of naughty people out there that sell "mutts" and call them the real thing Makes me SO MAD! :barnie

I have pure seramas i dont want these mutts breeding with them as they insist they are pure bred now they are telling someone else i know that my seramas are mixes when there not this person also admited their flock has mg,coryza and fowl pox and still gonna breed and sell but not tell the buyer i got these chicks as eggs before he got birds that infected his flock

All I can say on this is DO YOUR HOMEWORK everyone! Check out REAL breeders of any breed and as questions, ask for recommendations etc etc. I am lucky enough to be associated with THE TOP breeder of seramas on the West coast OCSeramas AND I have gone to shows for the past 6 years so I KNOW what a serma should look like.

So what are the prime things you look for? I mean, pictures don't always do a bird justice, and can also make them look better than they are.

To start with: Breeding history of the breeder. Comments from other purchasers. Do they belong to any national clubs like ASA / SCNA / SeramaUSA? See pics of MAMA&PAPA ask for pics of other offspring. Do not buy from E-BAy / Craigslist etc... a good breeder will not sell there simply because they do not have to. Word of mouth is the best.
As for looks: are U personally looking for SQ or just pets?
A serama should stand very vertical, have yellow beak and legs (unless they are black then they can have swarthy colored legs&beak)

Here are some examples I have handy:
This fellow IS a bonified serama (rip Emmit) but he was hatched like7-8 years ago when serama were still VERY new to the US. He is a terrible example of a serama BUT he was the friendliest soul.

THIS IS what a serama should look like ar at least somewhat close to this stance/posture/pose....

Look at the birds on the OCSerama website that will help too

Pure serama they may be...but, as with every animal and breed, if birds with the best qualities are not used as breeders, then bad qualities show up quickly and "pure" no longer really matters. So crossed or pure, they are lacking the serama characteristics. My first serama from shipped eggs looked worse than these-buyer beware. It pays to research before buying.
