American serama thread!

Yes I can, all I did was wall everything in the styro, the divider as well.. I can easily cut away a good section and put the eggs on the other side. Looking for my tape measure as we speak :)

Wow I thought I had 2 more days.. must have miscalculated.. 1 has hatched out and another has pipped and has that little crack starting to form around it. Quick question.. once he dries and I remove him is there a certain humidity level I need to keep them at.. I have heard that temp wise 95 F is appropriate but I started wondering about humidity just now.

I never worry about humidity once I put them in a brooder..mainly keeping the temp @95. Keep a look out for pasty butt. Ive noticed they are particularly prone to it..and grind the food smaller.

okay will do, so I have chick I have chick feed in with the two that have hatched already .. it's I guess about a third of a bb in size maybe a little smaller.. if I grind it it might make it into practically a powder.. is that the consistency I am looking for? I will put up pics later.. getting the boy ready for Halloween..Anybody got any good Halloween names lol seemed fitting since they are Halloween babies. Two more have pipped already fingers crossed.

So can anyone tell me if this one needs assistance, little guy has been going at it since about 2pm central and I just took this.. he is breaking the shell away but that membrane worries me.. first time hatching so not sure if it is something to worry about.. still has movement and is chirping..

If it has been zipped that far for that long, absolutely yes! Just finish chipping where it would have zipped, shell only first (leave the membrane underneath) and pick the shell off the air cell end. Moisten it with coconut oil or Vaseline and look for active blood vessels. If the membrane is clear, no blood, you can peel it off. Let the chick push out of the bottom of the egg on its own though. (may pop out in your hand!)

If the membrane inside has dried to its feathers, use a qtip and some Vaseline or coconut oil to gently loosen it. If the chick doesn't pop out on its own, put it back in the Bator in the half of the egg and wait.

Oh on the feed issue... I've tried grinding it for quail, and it basically turned to powder. I use MannaPro gamebird feed for the first few days to week, and it is usually a little finer/smaller than regular chick starter.

Well he is out, seems okay at the moment, very small bit of bleeding from his rectum when he initially got out but it stopped instantly and shows no traces of continuing. there were no remaining vessels and nothing alarming once the portion of the shell was removed other than he came out rear end first.. thought it was the other way around. Other than that he is talkative and moving around.

Oh! Was malpositioned. Glad you helped out. Sometimes they can zip that way, but sometimes get stuck. I noticed the zip line was close to the middle of the egg, but looked close enough that i figured it was the right direction.

Curious though, in your pic, was the section that is out of line done first, or did it start at the other side? Zip should be counterclockwise, looking at the fat end of the egg, so if it started there, I should have considered it was backwards in the egg.
