American serama thread!

So I have a couple questions.. when do Serama chicks start showing there true colors? Also what is the average price if I sell any of these chicks? I have seen prices all up and down the spectrum but I am not looking to get over on anyone just curious at what a fair and reasonable asking price would be for a non show quality bird.

I've had colors change for months! But usually by 2-3 months, you can get a general idea of their end color.
Price is very wide ranging. Your area and demand will be a big factor. Correct type and small size usually sell the highest around me. Mine are mostly just pet quality, although some could be trained to show. 4Hers like them because they are small and easily trained.

I don't remember the ages of the pics, but here is a progression on one of my previous cockerels.

Good info thanks, at what age can you sex them? I have a couple showing a ridge down head center and others not.. was wondering if that was indicative of a Roo or not. Also I have one who loves to challenge the others it seems .. does not do anything aggressive just runs up standing tall and flapping his little stubby pair of wings lol. Mind you they were born Oct 31 so still very young.

With several, I've found that little cockerels will show themselves within 2-3 weeks. when i have fewer, it can take a little longer to be sure. I have a broody hatch of 5 that are 2 months old now. 2 cockerels were quickly obvious early, 2 I'm sure are females. The 5th one, the jury is still out lol.

Would you guys recommend one for a 12 year old to use for showmanship? If so what gender do you think would be best I’m planning on buying a pair Sunday for my relative... I want to know if you recommend them so something different

If you can get one that is already used to being handled, then it may be a good choice. cockerels are usually more showy "cocky" lol Personally, my OEGBs are the best handling, most cooperative birds, so I'd say it depends on the bird and the child..

Okay, that was the other breed I was looking into! Thank you! I’m going to be looking for both at the show!
