American serama thread!

Hi WVwoodchick
Thank you so much for welcome & your reply & advice
Ill pop it back with mama & sibling, now, before they wake, ill follow your advice re hatchlings, if i get any,
Ill give roo another chance before re homing.
Ill update, woderful forum, read tons once i got the chucks and whilst eggs were incubating . All a learning curve eh
Thank you

Baby back with mama, went out at dawn to see if all is ok, all pecking around, baby fell over backwards, mama pulled it upright gently with its wing, now sitting on both her babies, its peeping loads wish i new difference between, fussing and pain. Ill try video later for any advice.
Roo is on his last 'half' chance, just blew his other half of it attacking the 2 hens in with him, not mating, pecking them ! real hard ! pulling them around and chasing them, went for me when i opened the pen would have drawn blood if he'd got near me, he seemed so angry, hes in solitary now for the rest of the day back in the pen to give the girls (&my dog)a bit of peace in the garden. Think he'll have to go
Thanks again
Any more input from yourself WV or any other members mega gratefully recived (please lol)

Just noticed how Green /gray my Serama hatching eggs are... Is this a normal color for them?

This one I call Revere lol. First to hatch and once he got moving well he went around pecking on the other eggs... Reminded me of Paul Revere .lolView attachment 1499953

When mine hatch with that color pattern, they have turned out exchequer. Definitely mottled at least. And egg color... mine are either off-white to light pinkish color. I would guess that any color is possible with them though. I’m not really sure.

Bummer on your Roo. Darn shame. But there are plenty of good roosters needing homes, so I wouldn’t hesitate to move him out.

Have you given the baby any vitamins? Maybe a shot of Nutridrench? I have found that if they don’t seem to thrive within the first few days, they have a tough time catching up.
The one that I kept having to help get in at night was still lagging behind yesterday so I brought her inside last night, but she passed away. She seemed strong too, but it I’m pretty sure she wasn’t drinking enough. When I showed her the water, she kept drinking and drinking. I didn’t pay attention that she hadn’t been over to the small waterer I had in the pen. If I had, she may have recovered. :(

Update: The sermas still spend most of the day inside a tractor. (DD's too afraid to let them free range with the rest. We lovingly call it our "useless chicken" tractor. Because it does not have a nest box, when we see Noodle pacing, the door gets opened. She runs to the coop, lays an egg & then comes inside for some cuddle time. Then she's returned to the group's tractor afterward. Such a sweet little bird.
