American serama thread!

Those green /gray eggs didn't hatch.. When I moved the chicks into the brooder something smelled off... It was those eggs. Looks like they they past around day 17...I may have caused something when I removed the egg turner.. I feel horrible.

Probably nothing you did. I have great hatches with everything else, but always lose a few seramas late. Even my broodies lose them late.

Any ideas what these will feather out as ? Any way to tell if any are silkied feathered?

The breeder has silkied feathered Serama in her flock but she doesn't track where each egg comes from.

I don't think there's a way to tell at hatch, but I noticed at 3 weeks that one serama had normal wing feathers while the other had a more frayed look. By the 4th week I was able to identify the gender & the feather type.

Hi everyone! I'm new to keeping seramas. My babies are five weeks old and 3 days. Do they all look like pullets? The dark one in particular has me puzzled.

Baby back with mama, went out at dawn to see if all is ok, all pecking around, baby fell over backwards, mama pulled it upright gently with its wing, now sitting on both her babies, its peeping loads wish i new difference between, fussing and pain. Ill try video later for any advice.
Roo is on his last 'half' chance, just blew his other half of it attacking the 2 hens in with him, not mating, pecking them ! real hard ! pulling them around and chasing them, went for me when i opened the pen would have drawn blood if he'd got near me, he seemed so angry, hes in solitary now for the rest of the day back in the pen to give the girls (&my dog)a bit of peace in the garden. Think he'll have to go

Bummer on your Roo. Darn shame. But there are plenty of good roosters needing homes, so I wouldn’t hesitate to move him out.

Have you given the baby any vitamins? Maybe a shot of Nutridrench? I have found that if they don’t seem to thrive within the first few days, they have a tough time catching up.
The one that I kept having to help get in at night was still lagging behind yesterday so I brought her inside last night, but she passed away. She seemed strong too, but it I’m pretty sure she wasn’t drinking enough. When I showed her the water, she kept drinking and drinking. I didn’t pay attention that she hadn’t been over to the small waterer I had in the pen. If I had, she may have recovered.

yes I believe hatched chicks are incorrect encourage the others to hatch. Sorry for your loss of the other chick.

Thankyou Chichero, only another hatcher who looses after a couple of days understands i guess, i was devestated, its my first attempts as never had a roo before, the other chick is here safe now, so made up i have 3 more in another incubater due next week, then im done, i think ? Don't know may be addicted now
