American serama thread!

Ours took a while. I'll try to get some better pix this weekend. They look quite different than when they first hatched. They also turned out to have frizzled feathers even tho both parents are smooth feathered.

They hatched 12/2. This picture is from 12/20:

Wait until you see the latest. You'd never know they were all the same chicks.

My 12-2 hatch
"White" chick & "Chipmunk" chick - a few days old

10-11 weeks
White is getting more gray on head.
Now named "Sesame"

Chipmunk is getting some nice double lacing / penciling on her back. Chest is still solid.
Now she's called "Kung Pao"

They're about 2 weeks older today but still have the same feathering. I can't wait to see how they'll turn out.

Around 4-5 months of age; closer to 5 months. I've a young pullet right now that surprised me. She was dark black with a white chest. Now her adult feathering is coming in-each black feather is tipped in white. A beautiful little bird she will be. Her sister was a dull brown; now each feather is trimmed in cream; and this while she raises her first chicks. She is not quite 5 months old.
Do you have a pic of those beauties?

I have some test eggs due to hatch on Sun. Most are from my orps, but I have 3 serama eggs in there. Because the seramas may hatch sooner, I prepped for hatch yesterday. Tonight I needed to add another container of water to kick up the humidity. When I opened the incubator, I heard a faint peeping.
:wee (no visible pips, but definitely a peep)

Guess who went for a walk today?

Woohoo! Good luck. Keep us posted!

Although day 21 is Sunday, I had a serama chick hatch this morning. I knew the seramas might hatch early, and I heard faint peeping (no pip) last night as I added some extra water to the incubator.

So now I have 13 orpington eggs, 2 serama eggs, & 1 yellow serama chick! :jumpy
(The other 2 serama eggs do not have pips. I hope they're OK.)

I hope your hatch goes well. My Serama usually hatch at 20-21 days. I was wondering if anyone might be able to tell me the best place to get egg shipping supplies. I have 85 eggs incubating now. I thought it might be time to sell some.lol

I did a quick candle of the 2 serama eggs. One may have died and shows no signs of life. I'm keeping it in just in case. The other is pipped. When I read the egg's date, I noticed that the pipped egg was the one I slipped in a day late. So if it hatches tomorrow, it will actually be on day 19 - and on time for a serama.

Now my ? is what to do with the hatched chick.... Should I put some moist food in the incubator? or Should I put it in the brooder by itself? I found that a peeping chick tends to make the eggs progress, but seramas are more fragile and would have a longer wait. I don't want it/them to go until Sunday w/o food & water.
